Be creative. Any threat he can identify with is one he can adapt to.

"Stfu", verbal commands, even physical threats, these all fall within his realm of understanding. For general public douchebaggery, you need a play that gives incentive without recourse.

This is where Machiavelli trumps Narcissus.

Be weird. Go invade his physical space with manufactured hyper-interest in the song he's playing. Invite him over for supper. Complement his choice of pastels after Labor Day. And do it all in one sentence. Repeatedly urge him to let you plug in your headset to his phone.

If you really care about how ridiculous you look to the awestruck onlookers, give them a wink and a grin when you turn away from your defeated db, who has no clue wtf just happened (in the likeness of the bus knight's bogan), but has uncomfortably turned away and shut his music off.

Or knocked you out. But, ya know, situation dictates.

You have to be careful with idiots in the general public. People with nothing to lose can easily risk it all. You're not a fucking super hero. You may find yourself catching a bullet or knife while trying to do the "right thing."

Don't waste your life on it. Yeah it's annoying, but it's like a crying kid: you can't shut it up and you need to just take it until you're off the train.

I know that phone-blasting isn't necessary (because it can be disabled), but it's generally cheaper for you to just not give a fuck.

Also groups tend to not only be more stubborn, but also more dangerous. I'm usually in a group of 5ish people, and I'm armed with a knife, so you could use that as a demographic. I wouldn't be quick to draw it over something as basic as blasting music, because that's retarded.

I would just try to close it off from my world.

Part of trp is also being smart and not picking battles you know you can't win. It's usually better to be pragmatical than principled.

If you want to deal with them...giving them enough rope to hang themselves and make themselves look like idiots is the best way.

Call the police, non-emergency transit hotline. Most transits have police specific to them with special phone numbers. Either the officer is so bored they will jump on the chance to harass some thugs, or they will be too busy/too indifferent to care. Either way, no sweat off your balls. Just don't call in such a way the thugs know you called (don't threaten to call, don't call while looking at them, don't talk loudly while in the call, resist the urge to call, and if you are the only other person on the train with them-> don't call)

I believe I got a train driver fired once, took about two minutes. Called in to security to complain the train driver was talking on his cell phone. I'm not kidding, the transit train driver was openly talking on a flip phone, not even using a headset. He was putting millions of dollars and dozens of lives at risk. At the end of the line, saw him walk out of the conductors office with a shocked look on his face. Found out a few days later, there was a zero tolerance rule for cell phone use and he would be fired at even a report of use.

Also maintenance, most people are too busy/lazy to put in maintenance requests, so things which fester for weeks often get fixed quite quickly once a call is put in.... Companies are often not liable for damages resulting from unreported issues, but are liable if the damage/danger has been reported so they take calls seriously. EG, if a biker beheads himself on a down powerline across the road after a storm, the power company is only liable if they knew about the down line.

Here is what you want to do. Address the situation (ie music being loud) as calmly as you can. "Hey, would you mind if you turned down your music for the rest of us here?"

They will either say fuck off to which you smile and go on about your business, or they comply to which you thank them. This is all common courtesy really, nothing about being big or bad, just try and bring more pleasantness to the unpleasant situation.

People here are going to tell you to fight or else you're a pussy but that is not always the best advice.

I have a job that requires a high security clearance with constant background checks. If I got arrested for 'standing up for myself' in a bar fight then my career would be over.

Anytime I see some drunk thug trying to start something with me in a bar I immediately leave and go somewhere else. People call me a pussy but I don't care what other people think; my career and well-being are #1 priority.

if they're bothering you tell them to keep it down. if u have to have a conversation, the less words the better. but even decent people will act a little stupid when they get in groups with friends. not worth getting involved more than just a passive hey guys I've got a headache or the look up and make eye contact

I'm 6ft 3 and 210 pounds. I've got some martial arts experience gained from various arts over the last 20 years. I'm not really asking how to go all Bruce Lee but just ways to deal with stupid rude kids. For example the last little shit I told off just looked a bit surprised and then just carried on annoying everyone on the train. How would people here deal with something like that?

You can't discipline someone's kid. The bad thing is that the parents don't either. I hate going out shopping and the door open and 3 kids start running around like the store is their playground. Then they come up and look at me, like I'm some father figure. It disturbs the fuck out of me.

The question to ask yourself is, "Is this worth ending up in the hospital/in jail/in the morgue over"? Telling a young, lower class man off in front of his friends is a good way to get stomped the fuck out. Starting shit with strangers is a good way to get stuffed into lockup, where there'll be plenty of opportunities to practice more fighting.

You want a solution.

Handle business. Somebody's got a loud stereo so walk up, take it and smash it. They make a move, attack first. You have the surprise and then the initiative.

They're obnoxious? Come prepared. An object that makes more sound than they do works, like an air horn. Beating someone at their own game is an effective strategy.

The bottom line is pure TRP: Be aggressive, decisive, dominant, and be prepared for the consequences. Always have an ace and an out. Know your limits and your end game.

Don't think you can be BP and curb action with words.
