No shit testing happened. She just shut you down. It didn't work primarily because she didn't really give a fuck (low interest level), nothing you can do about that.

Definitely there's room for improvement, it should've been more along the lines of cocky & funny, not cocky & The Fuhrer Hath Spoken, Mexican it Is.

The good news: you have excellent taste in Mexican food. El Matate is delicious. Now I really want a burrito.

The bad news: yeah, you were way too pushy. That level of assertion is a tactic, not a rule. It helps you appear confident, especially if someone just met you.

But this was an ex -- she already knows you. Bossing her around won't win points. She made it super-clear she had other shit to do -- you repeatedly telling her what she was going to be doing with her time is uncomfortable and off-putting.

After she said she might be free that night, you should have said, "Cool -- would be good to see you."

Then, you should have disengaged until a few days before and said, "We still on for Friday?"

Those are completely confident responses that don't come across as telling her what to do.

You don't make her do anything, she's got a choice.

I don't get this one either. My ex reacted this way when I tried to make plans for us... "You're trying to control everything" and "you don't respect my time and schedule, you just expect that I'll be available when you want me to be." I think it's a control thing - she had issues with being controlled.

Edit- what's your history with her?
