I have never really talked to her

How do you know her? How did you get her number? Also, how old are you? I'm mid 30's and it would seem strange for me to contact a girl that I've never talked to before.

It'd be much better to go through a mutual friend, which can be done simply by asking the friend to invite you along the next time friend hangs out with girl. I've done this even with girls I used to date (that is, asked a girl I used to date to introduce me to her friend). If you have a good reputation, and you should, that's the way to go.

Whatever. You can try something like this: "Hi (hername), this is (your full name). I'm (friendsname)'s friend. Do you know who I am?"

I think the "do you know who I am" thing is much better than going right to, "we should hang out" or (god help you, something beta like) "I really think you're a great person" or whatever.

You didn't really give us enough info, but you can just ask her if she wants to hang out. If she doesn't reply or gives some bullshit response just drop it, she's not interested, and she can re-initiate if she changes her mind.

But if you haven't really talked or had any moments of good eye contact/smiling then chances are she won't want to hang out with you because she doesn't sense any chemistry. Tbh you shouldn't really want to hangout with her either unless you've had some chemistry with her.

You could get lucky and she really likes your body type and she's receptive without even knowing you, but it's a slim chance.
