determinism is more than likely true, but it doesn't matter. You should still have the drive to make yourself a better man. These ideas of personal responsibility and choice are social constructs that promote a better society. If we all just sat around saying "man.. theres no point.. i am a robot.. you are a robot.." then we would get nowhere. I mean you can do that if you want but the humans that aren't doing that are going to out compete you and ultimately live happier lives.

Focus on your self as if your self actually exists. Or don't. It's up to you.. or is it? lol jk stop being a faggot. This "truth" doesn't change a thing, life has been this way since you were born and you didn't give a shit until now.

How about being destined to succeed? That out clockwork universe has been set up perfectly in that you are predestined to come out on top of everyone else?

That's the way I see it. You're just playing a role, sure, but your role could be the hero of the story. Think about that. That no matter what, you come out as the victor.

Of course, that doesn't mean you can just slack off. Even in stories, heroes, though predestined to play their roles, had to put in their fair share of work.

You can see the clockwork universe theory as something negative or something positive. Your choice.

The way I see it, philosophy and constant thinking will only drive you mad. You'll always end up asking "Why?" in the end of the day.

For me, I gave up on philosophy, and acknowledged that life is in the now, and through the mundane, just be humble about it.

Example:

A blade of grass has no inherit meaning it simply is, just as a man's life has no inherent meaning, it's completely subjective.

A scientist (Biologist) would say it's to reproduce, a Philosopher depending who you ask, would say it's to discover, and expand one's greatest Virtues (Aristotle).

Although in the end it doesn't truly matter, only the subjective experience of ones life, and the meaning whatever it may be.

Some men want to conquer the world, some want to build great arts, but this stems from one's sense of creating some type of inherent meaning in this vast emptiness which we live in.

You have 1 choice. Act or do not act. The results of which are simple

Predetermined existence
Act: Doesn't Matter, it's predetermined, but you were predetermined to act.
Don't Act: Doesn't Matter, it's predetermined, but you were predetermined to not act.

Free Will
Act: Good, you had free will and chose to make something of it.
Don't Act: Oh no, you had free will and chose to let it all slip by.

The only possible negative outcome you can create is by choosing not to act. In all scenarios, you are best to choose to act.

Dark Matter (DM) constitutes 85% of our known universe and Dark Energy (DE) 68% of the energy while dark energy plus dark matter constitute 95.1% of total mass–energy content.

DM and DE could be called fred and barney, for all that we know about it (fuck all) which is why it has those placeholder names to begin with. Hell, the unaccounted gravity (the reason for much of DM) could be matter from another universe gravitionally interacting with ours. And a bunch of other far-out theories.

We can't even begin to combine the knowledge of the very big (relativity) with the very small (quantum mechanics) and our best calculations in some areas based on theories are off by magnitudes of thousands (not even in the same ballpark in the same solar system).

Given our pitiful level of knowledge of the universe, are you really going to let some unproven concept get you down?

Here the the long and the short.

If there is no free will your lack of motivation is pre determined and your question and all the answers along with your or others follow up is pre-determined.

So ultimately nothing you ask or gleam matters because the result and the process are both pre-determined.

If free will exists then the responses and the questions and follow up are not pre-determined.

If you have free will or not you have no way of determining it because the act of determining if you have free will and the result of it could be elaborately pre-determined to give the false answer.

In conclusion it doesn't matter if it is pre-determined or not. You have no way to change it if it is and no way to accurately detect it if it is.

You're missing the point, and its a HUGE POINT. God, I hope the rest of these commenters come back and read this comment:

Let's say your brain is just a computer programmed through nature/nurture, and you have no free will. Your brain simply accepts inputs (info coming in through the senses) and makes decisions (outputs).

Well... that means you can re-program OTHER people's brains. You can't do anything about your own. No free will. Even choosing to try to reprogram your own brain can't be free will if you don't have any.

BUT YOU CAN BE THE 'INPUT' OR EXTERNAL FORCE acting on other people.

*btw, other interesting tidbits of this idea:

The best you can do for yourself (since you have no free will) is surround yourself with other people who will be the external force or input that makes you a better person or the person you want to be in life
Perhaps being the external force for others "IS" the purpose of life. To make life better or worse.
You can be a real-life changer to the people around you by being an external force that makes thier lives better, and that is the only real way their lives will change since they have no free will and are only being dictated by the inputs.
