(Xpost from TRP) I'm pretty new to TRP but I've been employing the mindset recently with some weird results. Long story short, I meet this girl at a party. She's easily the cutest girl at the party and every other dude was tryna get on it. We have hooked up once before but didn't have sex because neither of us had a condom (I usually carry condoms, but I expected a night with the boys so didn't bother bringing one that previous night). After hanging out with her for a bit at this party, I make more of an effort to talk to other people (my other guy friends, another cute girl at the party). She comes to me after an hour and says she's been crying in the bathroom this past hour because she saw me talking to another girl.

She says usually she's not the type to cry and she's used to guys falling head over heels for her instead of the other way around. I comfort her a bit, but she just keeps saying I don't "get" her and demands I stop "ignoring" her. I was not trying to do this, I just had people at the party I wanted to hang out with. Eventually I calm her down enough to leave her with her friends and go talk to my other friends. I end up not going home with her (hate being guilt tripped, it was also my last night with my guy friends and I wanted to chill with them).

After the party I get a barrage of texts at 3am about how I'm the worst piece of shit person shes ever met, I'm ugly, all her friends told her not to, etc etc. I respond with "I'm sorry you feel that way". Next morning she texts me back "I'm sorry, I overreacted". Again I try to comfort her, texting "no worries it happens to the best of us". I explain the situation to one of my female friends, who says I should have been more "tactful". I'm leaving this city in a week and don't give a shit tbh. I ended up making peace with her at the next party and avoided any more drama.

My question is; I want to be a good dude, in these situations should I "be more tactful"/comforted her more when she told me she was crying? It felt like she was trying to emotionally manipulate me into sleeping with her but maybe once I realized she was kinda unstable I should've let her down easier?
