I was watching this video of arnold : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri-M_Vo3w5A

He said that having a plan B, a "safety net", is what's gonna ruin you. Having something to fall back to doesn't let you work 100%. For example, I'm gonna take a test after a couple months, which will mostly determinate my future. If I say, "If I don't get a good result, it's ok, I can still join this X university, which is absolute shit". Then I won't be working as hard as someone who's dream is to only join Y university which requires good grades.

If I get a hard job and tell myself "this is too hard for me, I think I'm gonna take another job which pays less, but I won't have to work hard", then I would spend the rest of my life poor. As opposed to thinking that the only way I'm gonna get ahead in life is if I go through that job or even get one that's tougher.

I'd like to know about your opinion on this kind of strategy, the good and the bad.
