He reposts them fairly often to threads on /r/AskMen and /r/AskReddit so I figured I'd share the ones I found helpful. I see it as an extension of what one might read in Mark Manson's Models.

Response to "Guys of Reddit, what is your "flirting strategy"?"

Response to "How are some ways you've noticed women hitting on you?"

Response to "What's something all grown men should know about women?"

Response to "[NSFW] I need some advice for managing my sexual frustration when my girlfriend rejects my advances."

Response to "As a male, nearly all of my closest friends are female. While it's not an issue, I'm the only guy I know who almost exclusively has female friends. How normal is this?"

Response to "Do you think uber-attractive people get hit on less because people assume they are already taken? Have you ever subconsciously avoided someone who was "too hot?""

Response to "What are some of the warning signals that your relationship with your SO is going bad?"

Questions to ask your SO before getting married - It's really extensive, so I have to add that it is okay to not have all the answers right now, and be prepared for this to be a series of conversations.

You may have to revisit these topics throughout your relationship as your priorities evolve, and as you evolve as individuals. I think how well you and your partner are able to discuss tough topics is more important than having the perfect answers for all the questions.

As an aside, I expected the question about politics to be a comment-getter, but no one talked about that. Sports, however, had an active and hilarious sub-thread.

I used to be more of a lurker, but I was bothered at what happened when guys who were lost and confused and desiring advice asked questions on attraction.

In response they would get told cliches, e.g. "treat women like human beings" or cynical memes, e.g. "Rule 1. Be attractive. Rule 2. Don't be unattractive." Sometimes they'd even get shamed for speaking up at all, as if trying to be more effective at dating was wrong. Which weren't helpful.

I'm not funny or meme-savvy enough to get away with quick quips. I treat it like the OP asked a sincere question and I try to write a sincere answer.

This article inspired me to contribute more:

Redditor to Redditor: Male Mentorship

Excerpt:

One key contributor to many of the problems that young men face today is a lack of mentorship – whether in personal or professional capacities.

For a variety of social and cultural factors, many men, and would be mentors, are less willing and/or less able to form close relationships with younger men and boys than in the past.

The reasons behind this cultural shift are many, including: changes in family demographics that leave fathers out of touch with their children; the high rate at which men are imprisoned in this country, especially within some marginalized communities; and misplaced social suspicion regarding men’s interactions with young people.

The result is that many young men are left to haphazardly amble into manhood with only their adolescent instincts to guide them.

The results of this social experiment have been troubling to say the least. In the past twenty years, the proportion of men attending college has fallen significantly; while male rates for substance use, suicide, and violence (including school shooting and mass killings) continue to rise to alarming levels.

However, some young men are finding new ways to reach out to each other and older generations for advice and mentorship that subvert some of the aforementioned barriers.

Reddit.com serves as an excellent example.

If any of my posts have helped you, that makes me happy.

Thank you for leaving a comment haha, and for linking more reading material. Looking forward to whatever social life related aspects you might write about in the future.

In relation to your 'flirt or friend' link, the part about demonstrating attraction by action and not unloading feelings is something I didn't consider much per se, but it makes sense to me as that seems to be the core undertone in a lot of advice. How much feeling can you mention before it's considered too much, do you think? Is telling a girl you fairly recently met that you like her and let's go out for drinks any worse or better than just saying let's go for drinks?

You're welcome! I'm amazed that anybody slogs through those posts, with how long they are. Sometimes users have complained. I shrug it off. If humans were simpler, the posts would be shorter.

Don't talk about feelings before you've had sex with her.

Then don't talk about feelings after you've had sex with her.

Kidding aside, an ounce of leadership is more attractive than a pound of language. I'd just invite her for drinks vs. telling her you like her.

At the risk of generalizing, I think men are more into spelling everything out. While women love to talk, they are way more attuned to nonverbal cues and signals. A big mistake guys make is thinking communication is only verbal.

You know how women often prefer to hint at what they want, rather than tell you directly? Maybe they just don't want to seem selfish and rude? Possibly.

Although I think just saying what you want flat-out is more honest. I find playing games feels more manipulative and worse in the end. But that's because I'm a guy and that's how we communicate with other men.

Another Redditor described this phenomena well, saying something like,

Commenting on the state of something is not the same as making a direct request.

Example:

She says to you, "The garbage can looks full." Indirect.

vs.

"Can you please take out the garbage? It's full." Direct.

I'm generalizing, but women often communicate in "PowerTalk" while men speak in "StraightTalk."

The Ribbon Farm blog explains this well. The excerpts below are from a terrific series of posts called "The Gervais Principle."

The posts dissect the management culture of the TV show The Office (U.S. version), but this part applies well to the differences in female and male communication:

What distinguishes Powertalk is that with every word uttered, the power equation between the two speakers shifts just a little. Sometimes both gain slightly, at the expense of some poor schmuck. Sometimes one yields ground to the other. Powertalk in other words, is a consequential language.

. . . To function effectively they must constantly maintain and improve their position in the ecosystem of other Sociopaths, protecting themselves, competing, forming alliances, trading favors and building trust. Above all they must be wary of Sociopaths with misaligned agendas, and protect themselves in basic ways before attempting things like cooperation.

. . . One of the functions of the Clueless, recall, is to provide a buffer in what would otherwise be a painfully raw master-slave dynamic in a pure Sociopath-Loser organization.

But when they do talk, they actually speak an unadorned language you could call Straight Talk if it were worth naming. It is the ordinary (if rare) utilitarian language of the sane, with no ulterior motives flying around.

The mean-what-you-say-and-say-what-you-mean stuff between two people in a fixed, asymmetric power relationship, who don’t want or need to play real or fake power games.

Although it was talking about office politics, I immediately thought how it applied to gender.

Put another way, for women the context is the message (PowerTalk); but for guys, the message is the message (StraightTalk).

This is why some men think women never get to the point and engage in behind-the-scenes drama and games to achieve some hidden agenda.

But for women, they think guys are oblivious to hints and sometimes direct to the point of rudeness.

How and why she's saying something can be more important than what she's saying. They're using different modes of communication.

Whew, veered off on a tangent there. Hope that was helpful.

You're welcome!

I'm surprised you noticed the updates and new links. Do you get a notification as if it's a new reply whenever I update it?

It's convenient for me to put links to all my best dating advice in one place. Also makes it easier to share advice in replies and PMs.

Not dating related, but I also posted a round-up of links here:

You could say marketing is like seduction. Except instead of attracting women, you're attracting money.

Nope, I just revisit this thread when I need a re-read and I noticed your post got longer than I remember, so I hovered over the asterisk at the top where it says "5 months ago" and it said "edited 22 days ago".

Cheers for linking your marketing compilation also, hope it helps if anyone is still stumbling upon this thread aha

[–]GrillPenetrationUnit 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

yeah, this guy knows what he's talking about. i can tell because when someone offers really good advice it usually makes me feel really depressed because i realize how utterly clueless i am.

[–]JackRabbit- 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But you just learned something so you're less clueless, no?

[–]GrillPenetrationUnit 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

true, but it's still overwhelming and before i see a post like that i think "im getting pretty good at this i know so much now" and then i realize i know basically nothing.

Thank you, and you are absolutely right. I'd argue possibly more clueless than most guys. The journey was long and hard.
