The first thing I would say is why are you texting her at 8 in the morning? Personally for me I would never text a girl I just meet that early in the morning, maybe around 1 or 2 in the afternoon.
Something that I like to do is always set up the first date as soon as you can. You already "broke the ice" with her, she meet you, knows your nationality, knows what you do for a living. The next step is not let's talk, it's setting up the 1st date.
My message at 1 in the afternoon would have said. "Hey it was nice to meet you on the train yesterday, there is a really nice coffee shop that I know of, how about Wednesday at 5 ?"
I will always approach these situation with a slight arrogance, in my mind I know she wan't to go out with me, so the first message is setting up the first date.
If she says no, your reply should be "thats cool I'm usually free on Wednesdays and Fridays if you want to get together on one of those days let me know."
You don't text her no more after that, if she really wants to hang out with you she will let you know. You were very confident with what you wanted and she said no, if she wants to see you she has to "chase" a little.

Hahahaha you don’t know? Indians all text eachother good morning every day. It almost brought the infrastructure of the Internet to its knees. 😂😂😂

Already apologizing from the beginning, indirectly seeking validation with “I might be too old” was a fumble. Would have been better to turn it on her and create some push pull by saying “you may be too young for me.” Especially considering how her interest peaked when you mentioned your phd to her undergrad degree in the same field. You’re essentially her superior, would have been good to lean into that playfully.

Everything was good, but a good morning text almost every time comes up as a needy text irrespective of the intent. Avoid sending gn gm i miss you texts. Develop comfort and escalate. Text is to get a date. Period.

"Good morning, would 8pm tonight be a good time to talk?".
No. Trying to 'talk' before the first date isn't good idea at all. Especially since you've phrased it like some pushy salesman.
what to do now.
Wait for her response.

We live in different Cities, 700kms apart. I was vacationing there last week, now came back. So we can't meet now, only talk/chat. I told her during our interaction that I'll give her a call next (this) week. That's why my text is written this way.
What could I do better in this situation?

Oh ok.
But wanting to talk just for the sake of talking sounds needy.
Maybe tease her with something like
'haha when i was sightseeing the weirdest thing happened'
And when she replies, just follow up with 'can i call now?'
Also 8 40 am doesn't sound like a perfect time for such messages ;)

What if she never replies to my text today?
[–]revente 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nothing will really change.
She lives 700 km away and it's unlikely you'd ever date her.
Keep looking for girls in your closer proximity.
And actually congrats for making a move on her.

"Good morning, would 8pm tonight be a good time to talk?"
"Talk" about what precisely? With a random guy she only met on the train for a few minutes? She doesn't know, so it's much easier to go silent than anything else. Next time build up the conversation a bit and then ASK HER OUT on a date. All this can be done over text. She's a young person in college dude why would she want to talk on the phone?! Also, just from your description there were likely some issues with interaction, too. Like when you apologized for being older than her. Sounds like you have a lot going for you professionally, but you also seem a bit hyperformal and serious with the way you communicate.

Fantastic start. Very natural and respectful and exactly what we like to see from interactions like this out on the street. Already you have a win and should be happy with yourself.
From here? Let it sit. You have reached out to her and it's up to her to respond. Keep focusing on your goals and your family and friends and if she is interested she will respond. As tempting as it is there is no point double texting at this point. You gave her a time limit which is generally a no no but it's okay it's definitely not the end of the world. A better text would be to tell her that you are seeing a play or a movie or an art exhibition on X date time and ask her if she wants to come along. She may have been confused by your request to talk at a certain time.
Other than that great job.

Apart from apologizing for being too old, well done man. If she likes the look of you, she likes the look of you. No need to seek validation.
I wouldn't had said good morning personally or set a time to call her too soon, from my experience would be at the weekend coming up, but everyone is different. I would had kept the messaging lighthearted with banter and building up a bit more rapport with her first.
But you've sent the message now and all you can do is wait for her reply, if she sends it. If you hear nothing, you can leave it for a few days and message her once more. Then leave it to her to respond.

What I said in the final paragraph.

What wording should I use for the second text over the weekend? I don't think she will reply to my text today.
