Have you ever done algebra? Because Girls are a variable in our lives, that I'm going to define as X. Not "Ex", this is every girl, not just those you are no longer dating.

Now take the equation 4+X=10. You can immediately see that X=6. But what if it gets more complicated? And we all know that girls are complicated.

So now you have your big complicated equation, and you have your X, and you don't know the value of X. This is the same for girls, are they hot? Are then fun? Smart? Etc...

Now most guys who develop one-itis (me included), like to pick a girl that we can immediately estimate has a high value (Attractive, high social status and other things you can instantly read off a person), and assign them that value. Now X= 10,000.

Woah. Thats a pretty high value for a girl, maybe I should try and get her to like me!

Now remember, this girl's value is only in your head. You haven't solved her equation, and have no idea what she is really worth, but because you have assigned such high value to her, in your head she becomes "The one" for you, and no other girl will do, and then you chase her. For ever.

But if instead of picking a girl and working her up in your head, you take the time to factor in all of the parts of the equation, and find the actual sum of her parts, if she is funny, smart or any other qualities you find endearing then you may find she isn't as great as you had worked her up to be.

But you assigned her value, and in your head, she was a goddess.

She may still be great in the end, but no girl is as perfect as your mind can make them out to be, and often, the real value of X, is not the one you gave it.

The lesson to be learned here is make sure not to work girls up in your mind, at least before you are in a relationship, otherwise rejection will hurt infinitely more, over something that could be worth much less than you thought. Let the girl define herself to you.
