Approaching groups, any good ways to do it?

oh boy, I tried this a couple of months ago, crashed and burned so bad

I was in a party, see this beautiful girl in a group, she was quiet, starting at the floor while her friends were talking to each other. I go up to her, put my hand on her back, smile and say "hi!" so far, so good

instantly, everyone just stopped talking and looked at me, even one girl who was just laughing facing on the opposite direction just stopped and turned around. I admit it, i froze, I just asked her "having a good time?" she said yeah... then i left, surprise surprise, everyone just resumed like someone had pressed "pause" at a movie

I can approach a girl if she is by herself or with a friend. But when it's more than two girls, I just freeze up and can't think of any opening lines.

First off, there's not much difference between a lone girl, a pair or groups larger than a pair, in terms of how you can open. It's all in your head.

Secondly, if you're talking about actual "lines", then you are limiting yourself in the ways you could be opening.

Anything you guys can tell me about some good ways to approach groups?

It's the same, however many girls there are. You PAY ATTENTION. That's it. You pay attention and you use something you perceive to tailor an opener. (Something happening at that moment, something about the girls, something about someone in the area, something funny or unusual about the moment, etc.)

I take it back: there is one difference when there's more than one girl. If you address more than one person, it's rude to focus on one and ignore the other(s). If you've got a group, address all of them. Spread your attention around, with perhaps slightly more focus for the one you have interest in.

Just as the other poster said, be inclusive and try not to limit your attention to one girl, but do focus moreso on a certain one that you have your eye on. It'd be rude to just jump in and start talking to one girl because that instantly tells the other females that they are not good enough for you and if you don't have the friends in these situations, you don't have her.

Think of it this way. What does it matter if it's one or two or ten? The situation is the same - new people, new conversation. The odds get much better with the more girls around. There's more opportunity for your jokes to hit, girls to be interested in the new guy, and if you can hold all of their attention someone is fucking you that night.

Try this opener: hey girls whats up? I have a question that needs some fresh perspective. What do you think is more romantic: 1) laying on the beach with someone special while watching the sunset or 2) candlelit, home-cooked dinner, and gazing into another's eyes?

From there, calibrate based off answers and body language. Sets the tone very quickly that this conversation could lead to either one of those happening while also asserting you as a sensual person which helps to weed out those who aren't emotionally ready for you.
