It doesn't work for me, can anybody give me a hint on what im doing wrong?

So I tried improving this some time ago and think I improved quite a bit. Watching this video was like "yeah, right. I'm already doing all of this", but somehow conversations tend to be more like an interview for me. I keep asking questions and let them talk, but at some point I'm out of questions and don't know what to talk about next. Of cause I'm throwing in my opinion/experiences here and there, but the conversation is often times only about them and I feel like we don't connect somehow. So clearly I'm missing something.

Any advice appreciated.

I preach this all the time. here is how i speak to people i want to know better. Before meeting them or having any interaction, research what you know about them from their profile (if a dating site) If meeting irl these topics will provide info for good conversation

age
education
job history

just by asking her about these simple life experiences that everyone has you can learn a lot about her and show her your interest by listening completely By this I mean do not interrupt her. If she pauses do follow ups. Your goal is to make her comfortable and get her to ask questions about your life. be prepared

Doesn't that contradict the idea of controlling the conversation I am having with someone that I am trying to attract, qualify, etc. Active listening at best will only validate her feelings and take her to comfort faster than we would like, then we wonder why the fuck are we friendzoned again.
