I get where you're coming from, and agree with the general spirit of the piece, but there's a key flaw in your analogy: you're not trying to date other kindergartners (well, at least I fucking hope you're not!). Adult social dynamics are complicated and weird (and thus require some amount of forethought and planning) precisely because of all the experiences we have growing up.

I signed up for yoga classes the other day and the instructor asked me how many classes I've had before. I tell her I've had 4 and she exclaims "Oh thank God. We got someone that doesn't have any bad habits!".

Self-improvement in general is about identifying your bad habits and fixing them just as much as it is about starting good habits.
