It's important to recognize that you're just as entitled to what you want (women) as anyone else (Mystery, Tyler Durdan, RSD Tim, The alfa male on the street that you think will eat you alive if you make eye contact ect...). A common, and important, concept here is that people accept the strongest frame presented. In that way a strong will can shape the world around you. Tell your self "My will is strong, so I will tell you what to think. Even if its not what you thought or expected. You will be convinced because my will is strong." If they have a problem with it, its just that, THEIR problem. Haters gonna hate, no way around that. But you're the star in your own movie. The other actors will react to you, but you're in control.

taking care of yourself - going to the gym, going for runs, dressing well, well groomed - and you will feel better about yourself. although don't go overboard with any of those things. i.e. gym rat/meat head, expensive suits, $60 salon visits, all those don't help either.

Perfect practice makes perfect. Spend 10 years doing the same mistakes and you'll be the same. Improve each time. You know what you are doing wrong, now think about how you should have done it and remember it next time you talk. Simply talking might help a beginner, but after a while you'll need to make some concious effort.

Your confidence will improve when you improve at talking.

Start dancing to music... start on your own if you don't feel comfortable. Then listen to music more and use it the help set your state whenever you need. Put headphones on and dance everywhere without giving one fuck. Some people think its weird, others will love it if you are in state, they will smile and you can initiate conversation.

I'd put it this way : do what you want.

Seriously, the more you do things for yourself the more self-respect you develop.

Conversely, don't ever do anything for anybody's approval.

If I were to expand on these two principles it would be an entire essay and I've been spending way too much time on here today so that's all I'll say.

Listen to audiotapes. Watch videos by people who are good at it. Basically, immerse yourself in an (artificial but better than nothing) environment where confidence is in abundance.

Reference experience with women is best. If you've had good interactions with 50 women, there's no reason for you to not believe you can have 50 more. Sadly it is literally practice makes perfect.

Another side of the coin is reference experience of you being good at other things. If you're dominating in your hobbies, I don't care if it's gym or professional backgammon, it's a lot easier to say "I do good at everything else, why not be good with women?"

Another problem I see a lot of people, PUA in particular, suffer from is that they don't give themselves credit for their success. If you're getting A's in all your classes, give yourself permission to be proud of it, don't say "Oh, lots of people do well in school, and some people are taking more classes than me" and all that nonesense.

In pick up its the same thing, if you approach a girl and it goes okay don't go home and beat yourself up because she didn't jump the table to suck your dick, allow yourself to feel good because you pushed yourself.
