The problem with cold approaching is you have a "telemarketer's mentality". You approach and try to get "the sale". Instead, I like to interact with women naturally. If I see an attractive woman at my job, I'll go up and talk to her giving good eye contact and being playful and flirty, while being very professional (I don't want to lose my job or make the women feel uncomfortable while they're at work). If I'm out and about, sometimes I or the woman don't have time to talk to each other so a smile and a greeting might be all we have time for.
When men go out with the sole purpose of getting women (I been there), you feel like a failure when you come back empty-handed. The reason why this doesn't work for most men is because they're stuck in their head and feel a shit ton of anxiety overwhelm them.
Yeah, you could learn some one-liners that can break the ice and fake it til you make it, but all this does is it masks your fears. You still have the goal of getting "the sale", which can make you head into "neediness territory".
A good mentality to have when going out to cold approach women is the "catch and release" approach. Will you get the girl? You're not doing this to get the girl, you're doing this to condition yourself to get rid of your neediness. To get rid of your need for validation. It's not about getting the girl, it's about gaining the confidence and the power to get women.
"Why am I gonna approach women if I'm not gonna at least get her number?"
How do you feel when your goal is to get the girl? You feel nervous and feel the need to impress her to get her. When you don't get her, you feel like a failure. This will destroy your confidence and turns something fun like talking to women into a chore.
Now, with the "catch and release" approach, you are natural. You have no agenda. You are aware. You're opening your awareness to subtle signs of interest. You're not in your head, you're in your body. You're not trying to use pick up lines, you're using the situation. So imagine if you wanted to talk to 10 women a day, you could triple that amount with the catch and release approach and feel confident with each approach.
You see an attractive woman at the vending machine not knowing what she wants.
You: "It's like picking a college, isn't it?"
Her: "I never know what I want from these stupid things."
You: "Well, I know what I want. Do you mind?"
Her: "Oh no, go ahead."
You pick some Reese's Cup Cakes
You: "Have you tried these?"
Her: "No"
You: "Here. Try one"
Her: "Ooo, that is good. I'm gonna buy those."
You: "Glad I can help. Enjoy your day.
This is an example, not a script.
I could give you a ton of examples, but you get the idea. Before you leave, you want to leave on a high note. You want her to link good feelings to you. Keep in mind that there is a possibility you might see this woman. If you don't, that's okay because the whole purpose of the release is to let her go. This sends a psychological trigger that you have abundance.
Think about times when you've had a lot of something that you wanted. Didn't you end up giving a lot of it away?
"How am I gonna get a girl if I keep letting them go?"
Something amazing happens when you leave on a high note, women will try to lure YOU back in.
Let's say you're at a supermarket and you see a short sexy woman trying to reach the top shelf. You're taller so you ask her what she wants and grabs it for her. She looks like she's buying ingredients to make a dish you happen to like. The interaction goes a little like this. Once again, an example, not a script.
You: "How did you know I like [YOUR FAVORITE DISH HERE]?"
Her: "Yeah I'm inviting some friends over for a dinner party."
You: "Is wine gonna be served?"
Her: "Yeah. I'm not a big drinker so I'll probably take it easy."
You: "Have you ever had Pomegranate Wine?"
Her: "No, I haven't. That sounds good"
You: "They actually have a bottle in the next aisle over. Let me show you."
The both of you head over to the next aisle
Her: "Ooo, I'm gonna serve this bottle and see if anyone likes it.
You: "I'm gonna let you finish your shopping list. Enjoy your dinner party."
Her: "Would you like to come?"
You: "You're inviting me to your dinner party?"
Her: "Yes. Let me get your number so I can text you the address. Hope to see you there."
Will this happen all the time? No, but be ready for when it does when you practice the catch and release approach. Sometimes women try to reel you in... which makes cold approaching highly successful.
Approaching women is not always one-sided where you have to do everything. If she has something going on and would like to take a date, you might be speaking to the right girl at the right time.
Don't expect anything but building your confidence when you practice the catch and release approach. Women are everywhere and you may have hundreds of beautiful women in your area who you can talk to. Instead of thinking of it as a chore, look at each approach as a fun way to meet women. Be natural and be yourself. You're not trying to impress her, but you'll realize that the more you be yourself (the way you are with your friends and other men), the more she'll seem interested.
By being natural, you're just talking to the woman. Give her a chance to like YOU, don't feel the need to impress her by being someone you're not. If you're afraid to give women eye contact, you'll notice how good your eye contact will get with these women. If you don't know what to say to women, you'll notice how everything around you is a conversation piece. You'll also notice by practicing this method, you'll start noticing the subtle attraction signs these women are throwing at you because you're not stuck in your head, but more present and in your body.
You'll also notice that you're talking to and meeting women EVERYWHERE YOU GO. Even when you're just picking up milk from the store. After a while you'll bump into women you met days ago and the both of you can pick up where you left off.
