So at least with male friends, men tend to bond over specific activities so that’s where you have to start.
Every one of my close friends came from sports growing up, the military, the fire service, hunting, etc.
Find a hobby if you don’t already have one…specifically ones that require another person.

Gym is a good example of this you can make good friends in the gym

Bro go to social advice social skills . This wouldn’t be a good place to ask. The only thing I can tell you is hang around people that want you as much you them . If your putting a lot more effort in friendship than someone their not worth your time. So find people similar to you and you should be good
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I try though, if I don’t put effort in, then they never do either. I’ve only ever had one person who actively put effort into our friendship and she kinda ruined it because she had feelings for me, but she had a boyfriend. They are still together and he hates me because of this reason, so we don’t talk much anymore

Probably when you interact with people your focus is on you instead of them. Even in this post, I can see your cravings for validation and for proving to be a great deal.
Human beings are naturally egoists and they care only about themselves but you can use that self-awareness to your own benefit. If you want to learn how I highly recommend you the book: How to Win Friends and Influence People By Dale Carnegie.
Good luck.

I’ve actually took that book and am going to read it. Maybe I do focus on myself to much, but even still I think I’m pretty selfless in situations. I constantly offer to help others with things. If I see someone struggling with anything I always make sure to help. I’ll offer advice. Idk, but yes I am going to read that book

Probably because you’re “super nice”. People dont like super nice people. Just be true to yourself

I have the same problem as you. Haven't really made a single friend since I was 8 years old and I'm 23 now.
This is not friend specific tho, it's has hard for me to approach women as it is approaching potential friends.

How's romance with the women going?
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Not great :(
Most ghost me or aren’t interested in me. I know im not “ugly” but I think I just scare girls away somehow. Some days I can be really smooth. I get hints from girls a lot and have been told straight up that im got by some, but they just don’t stay interested long. If it’s not a one night thing, it’s never going to be a thing for me

Social problem, that's all. Girls ghost everyone, forget about that. If they tell you you're hot, that's it. They dig you. People complement you. So you've the potential to be a good friend. It is that you need to be out there, more.
You've got to change and improve your social skills. Like someone said here, boys gang on shared interests. I want you to think of people in terms of interests.
1- Mike: is a football guy. He digs cars, lifting weights and speaking sports. If I've something in common with him. Like sports. Then I'll chat him with it. I'll keep up with the news, and that will generate topics. Next big match, mike, let us watch it. And bring your friends. Blend in with them. Talk talk talk, joke, laugh, be absurd, nice, and have fun. These guys are your sports' gang.
2- Jack: is a bloody book worm. He loves reading about history, psychology and all the fancy stuff. Jack is my man for complicated topics. I go to jack, when I've deep-stuff convos to discuss. I don't have to be interested in history and psychology. I just have to interest jack to speak with me. And Jack loves complicated topics. So that's what I'll speak about with him.
People are like categories. They are interested in some stuff. You can join their gang if you share that interest. But don't bore them with stuff they're not interested in. Every guy has his topic.
As to women, read all the seduction stuff around here. Have real interests in life, read a lot. How to win Friends and Influence people is a must read. Then go out there and apply. Talk, test, speak with strangers. Cold approach girls. Ask them out. Fail, get up, try again, and you'll win.
Report back man. Feel free to chat me with your progress! A small problem is all you've. You are already likeable, so bring out the full potential.

I honestly love how you describe the categories idea. That makes a lot of sense. I realize that I don’t even think about my roommates that way when I really should

Glad you liked it! Talk to people in terms of what interests them, as long as it interests you.
Find new interests, and you'll find new friends.
This guy is into weight lifting, he's my gym buddy. This man is good with women. He's my wingman when we're out to meet beautiful ladies. This man is into tech and gaming. He's my man for all videogames stuff.
Never mix topics with them. A guy who clubs and parties won't be interested in hanging out with a book worm. Bring the ones who share the same interests together, to form a bigger gang.
Good luck!

Would Mike or Jack have a naturally easier time seducing someone though?
And can Jack ever be like Mike? No, maybe Jack would need some real advice about how to relax and have good social skills.

How to make friends
Post's title. You don't become successful with women, before succeeding with male friends, first. Never met a ladies man who doesn't have friends. Advice is also applicable to female friends.
The sub has a million seduction and win women posts already. I won't be the one who reinvents the wheel. He is able to read them. I asked about the women to see if it's problem with male friends only, which just doesn't happen. Confirmed by his answer. A winner in romance with women is automatically able in friendship with them.
Thank you for your input, though.

Read, 'how to win friends and influence people'
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I have the book, I haven’t read it, but I’ve read summaries and watched videos about it. All the stuff in the book is interesting, but I also feel as though I already do a lot of it in my daily life. Like saying peoples names in conversation, I’ve done that for a long time
[–]Starkiller148 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The biggest takeaways from that book aren’t the techniques, but the notion that it’s important to take a genuine interest in other people. Let them talk about themselves. I think this is your hang up

I've met a lot of my friends at work. I guess depending on what you do thats a good place to start.

Do you smoke weed? Had the same issue for the longest time. Nothing helped bond randoms into new friendships than smoking together. Would go to random get togethers or parties and it would help break the ice. Not my ideal interest or peak topic. It helped get the ball rolling for me, taught me a lot, both about establishing friendships and bad apples.

I do sometimes but I’m easily addicted to it, so I try to stay away from it. I do drink though, but I’m a light weight
Dude, word for word you have explained my (M41) exact story. Over my whole life I’ve questioned the same things you do and am yet to come across any substantive answers. What I can offer you though is three things; Firstly, dwelling on the issue only makes it worse. When I’ve previously made my problems attracting others a big deal to myself it has repelled others more. Secondly, use your energy to find a life partner who easily attracts others on a more permanent basis. They’ll balance you out and you can enjoy the results of this aspect of their being. Thirdly, read Dale Carnegie’s How to win friends and influence people. This had some results for me and I marvelled at how those who could attract people permanently all shared the same traits raised in the book. Otherwise, I’m very interested in the other replies to your post and thank you for sharing honestly.
Edit. I read replies again and see the book has already been suggested. Get into it.

I also had no friends. I was lonely in my room. But sometimes it is like that. I learned how to talk with people with books and practiced it by talking to strangers. And some strangers become my friends.
I still never had a gf so ur life is better then mine. Its bullshit that people dont be friends with u if u have no friends. Its about connecting with others
