If there's a high chance that you will see her again, either in study group or class, I personally would wait. You just get so much more information from a personal conversation (esp. if she says no for whatever reason). YMMV, but I vastly prefer in-person to initiating anything over email or text.

I would send her a casual email ( saying the group missed her) then take it up a notch from there if she replies

I wouldn't email her from study group email. Seems weird. Unless it was going to be about some arbitrary thing in class like notes or homework or a test. Just use that as your in to converse in email a bit more, but sparingly. Tell her that you dont use email too often and tell her (TELL HER) to exchange numbers with you. Leave yours in the email. never email again.

That is... if you ARE going to email her and NOT talk to her in class.
