You don’t have to designate dates necessarily. It’s the deed that describes, not the name we give it. You went out to dinner alone with her. She knew what was up. For whatever reason, she’s decided she’s not into you and has used the “catching up with a friend” as a face-saving “out”. Move on, and good luck.

I used to worry about calling it a date or not. But at the end of the day you are hanging out with a women one on one alone. If it’s a more intimate setting like a dinner or a movie and drinks at your place it’s pointless to clarify as most sane people should be able to put 2 and 2 together.

She was there for the free food, not for you. Women are not stupid, they pay attention to everything. She knew what your intentions were and she choose to ignore them, because she was there for the free meal and attention.

No and yes. In most cases when a man asks a woman he just met to hang out alone, unless she’s extremely clueless or naive chances are she’ll pick up on the fact it’s meant to be a date. The old “I just thought we were friends hanging out” is usually just a cop-out phrase that really means she wasn’t feeling.

However, if she asks you to explicitly confirm it’s a date then you say yes. Or if she asks “You mean platonically?” when you want it to be a date, say “No a date” (I’ve had the latter situation before).

Well I think it depends... if she wasn’t repulsed when you made a move then it’s a good thing. She was also down to hang. Always remeber 2 steps foward, one step back. Just read her and go for it. Always better to be rejected that to never know.
