The best dates are always cheap. Showy expensive dates put you on the "provider" track, which is a long, hard, path into her heart and her pants. It takes at least three dates (if she's a little slutty) and a lot of money and awesomeness to get there by that road. Cheap dates done well can get you there in the first or second date (whether she's a little slutty or not).

Start with a drink or two at a dive bar (or coffee/tea, if it's during the day), just to find out whether she's worth more of your time.

After a drink or two, go bowling, mini-golfing, skee-balling, foosballing, air hockeying, etc. Pick something stupid and funny that you both suck at. I'll usually ask, something like, "Hey, are you any good at pool?" If she says, "Yes", then I'll say, "Well, forget that! I'm not gonna be beaten by some girl! We're going bowling!" (Smiling, of course.)

Bowling and mini-golf are my favorites, because they provide so many opportunities for touch, push-pull, teasing, overtly checking out her ass, etc.

All of these things cost maybe 15-20 bucks for a couple hours of entertainment. The pre-bowling drinks can usually be bought in alternating rounds. ("I'll get the first round. Don't be boring, or I'll have to leave before we get to your round." Smiling, of course.)

The ideal date will put you near your place by the end of the date, so that if things are going well, you can invite her back to your place to show her those pictures you were talking about, or that movie you can't believe she's never seen, or the dog/cat that does goofy tricks and eats crayons if giving the chance. The invitation should, of course, be casual and non-committal. "Hey, my place is just around the corner. We can swing by for a minute and I can show you the pictures I took in Africa."
