I’m living in a new city for the summer, and went downtown today to do some sightseeing and exploring. I was sitting in Chipotle eating dinner and charging my phone, when a cute girl that was exactly my type sat down next to me and asked if she could use the other outlet right above mine. I said sure, but was caught off guard and didn’t know what to say after that. It was the perfect chance to segue into small talk, but I completely froze. The longer I sat there saying nothing the more awkward I felt it would be to try and start a conversation, so I eventually left after ~5 minutes when I finished my food.

Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. After all there are plenty of fish in the sea, and there was no guarantee this random girl would have been into me. But it still bugged me for the entire rest of the evening that I didn’t work up the nerve to at least say something to her.

I am hoping that by writing this all out I can put this behind me and learn, but I still wanted to give you all a quick reminder to not be like me, and that making a fool of yourself talking to a girl is still infinitely better than the lingering pain of not trying and wondering what might have happened.
