I was out with 2 guy friends at a local college club. We were just sitting at a table and I saw a 2 girls towards the corner of the dance floor dancing. One of the things that make me nervous when approaching girls is not the girls themselves, but the people around them overhearing me trying to flirt/potentially getting rejected. Since these girls were just out of earshot of other people (loud club), I said fuck it and went to ask if I could dance with them. Got hit with the "no, we have boyfriends" line, and I went back to my friends.

But the story doesn't end there. I was so happy with myself for being finally able to approach someone that I was in the happiest mood, and I was just walking around talking to different people at the bar. Even approached 2 more girls (got passive rejections) and also got to know this guy who plays on our school's football team. Later we went to meet a different group of friends (still in a great mood) and I got talking with this girl they introduced me to. As they were leaving, she gave me her number unprompted. I used no pickup techniques or tricks, and I'm convinced that the positive energy I had from that night was what did it.

Clearly I have a long way to go, but wanted to share this milestone somewhere, hopefully it inspires a few people to get out and approach!
