I had a great interaction with a girl earlier tonight at a lounge. She was there with her cousin, who is a decent acquaintance of mine.

One of my friends came by with his girlfriend. They both apparently knew the girl. As the 2 girls chatted, I quietly told my friend about the interaction and revealed my intentions to get this girl’s IG.

We were all talking in a group (my friend, his gf, the girl, her cousin & me). Another 3 people we know showed up, and the group was too big with convos happening everywhere.

This caused my chatter with the girl to slow significantly. She was distracted talking to multiple people in the group.

My buddy began giving me unsolicited advice. He was trying to convince me that the positivity of the interaction was all in my head. He was convincing me that if the girl was interested, she would’ve continued wanting to talk to me instead of allowing the new people in the group to takeover the conversation and distract her.

His intentions were pure, but his opinion caused doubt to creep in my head.

I had to leave for work, so my friend told me I should just wait until I get a better opportunity to chat with this girl, maybe impress her more.

I thought our initial interaction before the group grew in size was great. We discussed various topics, got to know each other relatively well, and I made her laugh a lot!

I decided to ignore my buddy’s suggestion, so as I went person-to-person and said bye to everyone, I approached the girl last. I asked her in front of the group, “When is the next time you’re in the area?”

She said, “I’m around a lot. My parents live close by and I visit every weekend.”

I said, “Great! How about I get your IG and we can hangout again soon?”

She agreed with a smile and put her IG in my phone. I followed her on IG and by the time I reached my car, I saw that she requested to follow me back.

My buddy was honestly surprised.

Now imagine if I had assumed he was right, though? I would’ve just said bye to everyone and dipped. It would’ve been weak.

If you think an interaction went well, fuck it. Don’t let doubt stop you from trying to close on her social/digits.

I promise even if your perception of the interaction was inaccurate, meaning you thought she was interested when she was just being friendly, you’ll feel better getting that rejection instead of playing “what if I did try to get her contact info” scenarios in your head later.
