It depends on the weather and the setting.

A polo works great for when the weather is hot and the activity is pretty casual. Think "walk on the beach".

For colder weather (or a more formal dinner date) long sleeves are a better fit.

When it comes to clothing, use the four Fs:

Function
Fit
Fabric
Fashion

So your question falls more under the function category. I don't think a polo is necessarily unfashionable. James Bond also wears a polo shirt. It therefore depends more on the setting and the weather (the function).

I guess it’s more important if it suits you well and if you feel comfortable and empowered. I think girl may feel obliged because you are already showing much skin, but that doesn’t mean you will dress up to feel too hot. She can bear with it, give her some space to accommodate.

What is important is 'fit'. Clothes look good when they're proportionate to what a 'human body' looks like; that baggy 'oversized' shit, those sleeves that flare out, that shirt that's just cut like a box, those jeans that make your legs look like a straight tube, you want clothes that touch and wrap around you.

The context and nuance of what specific clothing you choose is irrelevant. You can have whatever 'style' you want; but what's flattering is said clothing skimming your body. Long or short sleeves is a choice, it being tapered at the back is the sort of thing that matters.

Shouldn't have to be said, social skills are 100% of the focus long term. Then again, you have to wear clothes so you might as well have some knowledge on it anyway.
