I'm going to keep this short because it really doesn't require paragraphs of detail to get to the point.

My friend and I went out to grab some beers in the trendy area of the city I live in. It was busy in the bar and so we sat at the bar. People would come up to order drinks right next to where I was sitting and I made it a point to ask the person what they were drinking as the bartender was running their credit card. On the third set of guys that I did this to a good conversation kicked off. Turns out they're both new in town and so are their friends (two other guys and a cute girl). My friend and I chat with them for a few minutes and then join their larger group. Had a great time with all of them and now have a date lined up with the cute girl to get drinks.

Moral of the story is that I would have never approached a table of four guys and one girl in hopes of getting the girls number, but by chatting with random guys it allowed me to meet this girl, get her number and get a date set up.

One piece of advice I also have is when you are in that larger group of people and you see a cute girl don't go and focus all of your energy on the one woman there. Talk to everyone, make everyone laugh, and periodically have a few one on one interactions with the girl.

Edit: 1 week later.

Had a good date where we got drinks and walked around a park. Kissed her and then walked her back to her place where we kissed goodbye. Two days later I asked her if she wanted to get bubble tea sometime and was ghosted for one day. She then says she had so much anxiety thinking about responding to my text (first time I've heard that one) that she realizes she isn't ready to date. On to the next one!
