Before this week, I had been in a habit of consuming YouTube video after YouTube video, book after book, trying to understand the psychology of attraction so that I could be "perfect" from the start. I realized that this was getting me nowhere and I had to get past my first sticking point before I could learn the advanced shit... Approach Anxiety.
I had previously tried to get over AA around 9 months ago. I would walk around malls and ask girls for the time and directions. I never got past this and just gave up then. I made more progress this week than I ever have before. I live on a campus with 40,000 students so there's a constant flow of attractive girls (though I have to be careful because I don't want to ruin my reputation around here). The first day, I asked 10 girls for directions. The next day, I asked 10 girls for random opinions. The next day, I gave 10 girls non-sexual compliments. And yesterday, I gave around 5 girls sexual compliments before stopping because most of them were either creeped out or weren't used to getting compliments by random guys.
So that brings me to today... I do job shadowing about 2 hours from my university, so after that, I went to the local mall and started giving compliments again. It was easier because I knew I would most likely never see them again. After about 8 sexual compliments, I got into a flow state. I had never done something like that before, nor did I ever think it was possible for me to do it. I even got into a conversation with one cute worker and got her number.
Feeling good about myself, I decide to walk right into Victoria Secret and hit on the employee... I straight up told her she was attractive and asked her what her name was. She rejected me so hard - "Don't worry about it..." in a dismissive tone. This was my first real rejection, and if I had to guess, on the harsher side of rejections. Yes, I was slightly un-calibrated and she probably sensed that I was being a try-hard, but god damn it felt good.
I had been so fucking scared to approach for so long, and the fact that I did it in this short of time just encourages me to keep going. As a beginner, it will be a numbers game at first and I will get lots of rejections, but once I master the fundamentals, I'll be able to focus on higher level shit like push-pull, showing intent without giving my power away, and calibrating the set.
LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS READING THIS
- If you want a result, stop reading pickup material. Your current sticking point is approach anxiety. Solve that first before you work on advanced stuff
- Start small and work your way up. This is called the "Goldilocks Principle" and was first described in Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's book "Flow." Have reasonable goals and expectations for where you're at right now. If you expect yourself to be the world's greatest pick up artist on your first day, you will inevitably be disappointed. Set a goal slightly out of your comfort zone so it's not too easy that you're bored and too hard that you're anxious, but just right. Then move on to the next.
- You will feel rejected and hurt at first. Just walking around telling girls they're beautiful will make you feel like a weirdo. What guys ever fucking do that? You will make girls feel awkward and creeped out, especially if you go out of your way to compliment them. Learn to love this pain. It's ultimately making you stronger and desensitizing yourself to rejection.
