Hard to analyse without seeing you. But you seem to be not sure of yourself and your behaviour. But that is the most important thing, much more important than how other people perceive you. Stay true to yourself and your values. Whether other people like you and call you "arrogant" or anything else is secondary.

Am I too nice and friendly?

If you are a somewhat young guy in the west, than you probably are. But that does not mean you should not be friendly. It's about knowing your own boundaries and your value.

I always come across as angry because I often have an angry look on my face. I really don't do it on purpose, but it does keep people from bothering me with stupid stuff. Some people I know get amazed how fast my angry look turns into a smile as I run into them.

I say back "I'm not always ____________", towards the criticism.

I figured that they are just bored, so getting criticism from them is an indication that I should probably open up more.

It's weird when people don't actually know me but they might say stuff like that.
