At Elbo Room in the Mission Friday night.

Set 1 - The direct opener

I'll try keep this brief because it was. I meet way, way too many Indian women in SF and in general. They are much more receptive to me and I find it kind of boring (aiming for those hot blondes). Tonight was no different. This I got in conversation with a lovely young Indian lady outside while smoking ganja with SnarkyMcChode.

The group with this girl (at least 4) were trying to get into Elbo room and along with another group or two confused those of us smoking near the entrance as being part of the line to get in. I strike.

Kumar: Ladies, the line starts up there

At this point the girls have already walked past us and have to turn and walk back up the street. I start making a little sweeping motion to each of them individually as if giving them permission to pass (seriously, I have no idea how I do this, ask Snarky)

Kumar: Go ahead... move along... almost there... Not you. Stop. I want to talk to you this is obviously to my target

She responded positively, giggled a little as did her friends. They turned away and let her talk to me. I made quick work of it, getting her name, making her laugh once or twice more and finding out what her plans were for the night. At this point I was confident I would see her later and I let her continue with the line and into the venue.

I'd like to point out that I can virtually skip the attraction phase in every set if I go in direct. Opening in such a manner shows so much confidence, perceived self-entitlement and badass style that a huge number of the girls that hook already find you attractive from your approach alone.

Set 2 - The set between sets/practicing mixed group openers

I have a Kryptonite. Mixed sets. I suck at opening mixed sets. It's something I plan on blowing through in the very near future (it's easy, just take 2-3 consecutive nights where the only sets I'm even allowed to open are mixed and voila, should be through that wall). I've been trying to work on just starting conversations with mixed groups and couples in every day life and decided to try it this night.

I approach yet another HB Indian and a white guy and address both briefly before speaking directly to the lady

Kumar: Hey, don't mean to intrude. You're Indian, right?... Cool. Are you by chance here with the hottie with the gold hoop earrings?

I've found a great way to actually get into mixed sets is to come in and ask something directly to the girl that the guy can't really help with. You can be polite about it, not piss him off and still leave him out of the interaction.

2nd Indian Girl: Aw, no, I'm not. I'm sorry! I hope you find her!

Now I address both her and the guy

Kumar: Awesome, thanks! I met her earlier when she was coming in and wanted to talk to her again. Quite the cutie.

2nd Indian Girl: laughs if I see her I'll come find you!

Kumar: Perfect. Have a good night guys.

Both: You too!

Later in the night I've opened multiple other sets but not found 1st Indian Girl. I run into 2nd Indian Girl:

Kumar: Hey, we talked earlier, right?

2nd Indian Girl: Yeah! Did you ever find gold earring girl?

Kumar: Nope, apparently it wasn't meant to be...

Ok, here is a point where body language is everything and needs to be explained or this entire field report will look like total bullshit. During both this conversation and when I opened this girl I held extremely strong [but not creepy] eye contact with both her AND the guy (during the approach). It's difficult to describe the rest of my body language but it all portrayed extreme confidence.

2nd Indian Girl: That's too bad!

Kumar: Alas, tis. Remind me of your name one more time?

2nd Indian Girl: introduces self So you didn't find her? I wish you'd come save me from that horrid conversation

This was out of the blue to me. I could tell from a couple major IOI's (mainly the eye contact, smile and lingering handshake when we re-introduced) that she at the very least thought I was cute but this IOI caught me off guard. Not totally blatant but pretty damn obvious. I made a brief inquiry about the guy she was with, not competition apparently? Easy pickings from there, found out she lived in SJ (where I work), number closed on the premise of lunch this week. Texted her a wee bit (only 4-5 messages back and forth) and have a dinner date set in about an hour.

TLDR: Using a girl you think is with her boyfriend as your wingwoman is a great way to show social intuition, preselection, confidence, humor etc etc etc just in case she's actually single and looking ;-)
