Figured share a short story with all the fellow nerds on this subreddit.

Set 1 (Friday) (Speed dating)

Signed up for a speed dating thing. Event was fairly small 8 girls and out of the out 8, only 1 that found remotely interested in(My type) other was Asian that was pretty cocky and no filter but not great looking. Before the event even begins I see the one I'm interested in sitting at a table by herself with a drink. I immediately approach, sit, ask her name "Sam" and start talking. We continue talking until the event starts. She ended up being the my first "speed date" . That goes pretty excellent. Sam did 80% of the talking I didn't have to do much. The event continues and I Go about and make niceties with the other females(not remotely interested in).

My last speed date is the Asian girl, whom we have an interesting conversation but we can both tell we're not each others type. As the event ended I go right back to Sam and continue talking. I ask if she's busy or wants to grab some food after. She rambles on about other stuff then says she has go to find her guy friend she came with. She takes off and I start talking to the Asian girl at the bar. (Sam leaves without say anything to me, but we "matched" on the cards). I ask the Asian if she like to grab a bite to eat nearby. She agrees. We talk a little as she finishes her drink. Then we head out. On our way out There is another guy from the event waiting for an uber. She asks him about it. (I guess they live closer to each other?) Then proceeds to ask the guy if they can split an uber together. She asks me if that ok? (I'm totally fucking lost at this point, WTF just happened?) I say sure. She points to her phone and I ask do you want my #? "No it's okay we'll see if matched" I just nod and walk the fuck off to find some food.

Not sure why but I felt extremely defeated after that event. I entirely wanted to quit even trying to find a girls. I head home defeated and depressed. Didn't get up till 1PM the next day, didn't even want to get out of bed.

Set 2 (Saturday) (Gym)

Eventually I force my motivation and get ready to go to the gym to try to exercise the funk off. I started started running when I notice a pretty cute girl, gym is fairly dead and she's by herself just stretching. I Stop the threadmill, calm by breathing a bit, walk over (She has earphones in) tap her and say "Hi, I think your pretty and I was interested in talking to you" maintaining eye contact the entire time. She thanks me then says "usually people just ask me if I'm using equipment". I just ask what shes likes listening to and continue to the conversation from there. (Name/Age) (Where do you live?) (What do you like to do). I joke a bit about my work(I work as IT). She talks about her friends getting married (I Told her I'd make a great candidate) and having kids. (Ask if she wants kids) Not entirely sure but she wants "furbabies" start talking pets.

I ask for her number, get it, then right in front of her proceed to call it. She seem a bit shocked. "You, don't believe I gave you my real number?" (Shows me her phone with my missed phone call on it). I just say, if you're going to give out wrong #'s at least make it Domino's pizza so I can order. She laughs and tells me that a great idea she's going to use that. She says I have to get ready for work, so I end the conversation (hold out my hand palm upwards, grasp her hand gently) nice to meet you.

I text her right away with "Hey this is me". Hours later she replys back "Haha got it hard to forget the guy that interrupts my very serious workout". I Proceed with asking her schedule when shes free for a lunch/dinner. She gets back to me with a "monday for sure" and Potentially have a date coming up with this girl.

Post-Op

Honestly after watching a ton of youtube PUA (ToddV and RSD) I felt it confused. What's the best way to approach? how can I get the girl to chase me? So I have to give ToddV credit after watching some his stuff recently. He said most new guys lack the intent and go too platonic. So with Set 2 I honestly thought well fuck! After yesterdays defeats, what's the worst that can happen if I'm entirely direct with her. I've done a few approaches TOTALLY avoiding saying "I think your pretty/cute/etc". So I'm still shocked she was receptive, Got number, and a date.

This was my VERY FIRST COLD approach that ended in success. So to other fellow nerds of this subreddit, I was entirely self-defeating and wanting to quit ever trying... but don't. Even if she flakes in on date I still take pride in that approach and will continue approaching.

Update

Kind of screwed up the "setup for date" with the girl as this a whole new level for me. She was down for meeting up "monday for sure" but I didn't ask time. So I put forward a time/place and found out she works late after I had given her a time/place. I attempted again with a later time and a different place but no response as of yet. Not giving up on her, ill let go, I'm some random dude. More likely ill run into her at the gym sometime again. If we don't eventually meet-up before then.

Side note I did say "date" in the text after I changed the place. I've heard mixed things on using the word "Date" Whats your take?
