First off just want to say that this isn't a spectacular f-close like some have posted here, but I've been in a rut for a while and seddit has re-taught me some of the things I should've been doing the whole time. Just wanted to share with yall.

Night started off at a lounge in Midtown. Chatting with some buddies and our friend from out of town when two friends come up to say hi (Girl A and B). Girl A (5.5?) went to Princeton, is nice, but just a little bit snooty (and for good reason, she has a ridiculous job). Girl B is a solid 8, tiny girl, light brown hair, big cute eyes. Caught my eye the moment I saw her.

So of course I ignore her to start. Chat a little bit with A and the guy that introduced us - how they knew each other, joked about all Asians in the city being at most 2 degrees away. Gave B half a second of eye contact here and there, but I could sense her looking at me and getting a bit annoyed she wasn't included in the convo. Nice.

Float around a bit, see a girl I've talked with briefly (Girl C) a few weeks ago at a nightclub. Tall, 5'9"?, 7.8, cute as hell, looks like a California girl. Convo starts off normal enough - how's your day been, blah blah. I say how I wasn't even going to come out tonight, and she says she's tired too from spending 4 hours in the hair salon. I tell her it looks good, but it looks so ....normal for 4 hour effort. She takes it well, so I know I can turn up the ribbing a little bit. After a lull in the conversation, I turn around and talk to someone else.

End up back at the bar around Girl A and B talking to my friend and I make a little motion at B to move so I can grab my drink. I drip a little bit on her, and she calls me out on it.

Her: Why's it so wet over here, you dripped on me!

Me: (look her up and down and then into her eyes, with a smirk) Why are you in the way then?

A and friend start laughing and B fake-glares at me. I give her a cheeky grin and start talking to A again while B is kind of standing there. Talk about where we live (she lives on the west side), and when I mention I live on the east, B cuts in and asks where. Give her a quick "where did you come from" look, and tell her. We talk a little about my area and hers (A turned around) - she lives in the Village and I rib her for not fitting in. Exit the convo before there are any awkward silences.

Back to C! I'm talking to my friend and notice she's getting hit on and very uncomfortable, so I go over and grab her hand to get her away from the dude.

Her: Thank you...ugh I don't know how to say no!

Me: Next time you should just say "my boyfriend's over there" and point in a random direction.

Friend: Or, just say solocup is your boyfriend.

Her: Yea! Can you pretend to be my boyfriend?

Me: (without missing a beat and looking at her). I don't know about that... I don't even know you that well.

Her: (fake horror) Did you just reject me?

Me: I'm sorry, I really didn't want to do this here...but it's not going to work.

Her: I hate you!

Me: Really! I'm sorry - it's not you, it's me.

From here, I break out every breakup cliche in the book and she's eating it up. Play hitting me, turning around and walking 3 feet away dramatically. I pull her back by her waist and laugh at her.

Me: Where are you going? There's nobody over there. Well, except for that guy. Maybe he'll be your boyfriend, want me to go get him?

I start to walk over and she's grabbing on my arm pulling me back. Then she decides to run a little game on me...she gives me a fake pout, and a "Whatever, I would never date you anyway." and walks away. Money.

Back to A and B! I hadn't joined the group for 10 seconds when B reaches across the circle and grabs my necklace (dog tag from my fraternity.)

Her: What does your dog tag say? reads it Who still wears dog tags?

This is where I fuck up.

Me: Eh, I needed a necklace and it was the first one I grabbed.

Her: Oh, so it's a fashion thing.

Me: Yea, something like that.

As soon as the words were out of my mouth I knew I had just qualified to her and busted my frame. Fuck. She turned her head for a sec and I walked away. I'm gonna admit some AFC crept up on me at this point. 10 minutes later, I tried to rib her for being antisocial and on her phone in the middle of a crowd, but my delivery and frame weren't solid and she smiled politely before going back to her phone. Fuck it.

C's standing with her friend so we pick up where we left off. "Hey, listen, it's not awkward, right? You're like my best friend and I don't want to lose you". She hooks and it's off. Banter a little bit and she asks me if i was going to a nightclub later in the night.

Me: Why? Are you? (in a tone that implies I will go if she does)

Her: Yea, I think so, you should come!

Me: Oh. No, I have work early tomorrow.

I see her give me a look out of the corner of her eye. I have to leave, so I pull out my phone.

Me: Put your number in.

Her: You already have my number! (I knew this, but didn't feel any rapport last time we texted so I stopped before I crashed hard. Felt this was a good way to start fresh, so to speak. Think it'll make a difference?)

Me: No shit, really? (I typed "Girl C" in, and two happened to pop up, neither with a last name) Which one?

Her: Wow, are you kidding? That one.

Me: Ok, cool. See you around.

Planning on texting her later today with "....so can you let me know when you're gonna come by and pick up your crap?" and seeing where it goes. Thoughts?

Walk out with A, B, and a friend. From the moment I busted out, I started ignoring her. I'd catch her glancing at me when talking to A or grabbing my jacket past her. I needed to get my frame back. We walk outside and I tap A to give her a hug, then just leave without looking at B. Was this harsh? Think she saw right through this?

All-in-all, I feel like being unattached from the outcome and mentally willing to walk away from the convo at any second helped immensely. During lulls, C would ask questions that were just random enough for me to know she wanted to keep the convo going. I know, because I used to do this. A lot. "Where are your friends?" "So what nationality are you?" "Where do you live?"

Apologize if this is long-winded for not much action. Feedback?
