Earlier yesterday, I saw one of RSD Tyler's videos on what causes bad nights. In the beginning of the video, he demonstrates how a beginner's night usually goes. This demonstration hit me hard, because it's EXACTLY the mindset I used to have when I'm out. And I'm sure a lot of guys can relate to this as well.
-Enter club
-Hot girl passes by, but I'm going to check out the dance floor first before trying to be social
-On dance floor, but I feel a little thirsty. Why don't I get a drink of water first
-At bar, ask girl what she's drinking, stop talking to her after she responds
-Now that I'm done with my water, it's time to drain the main vein before I actually start pimpin'
-Stand around awkwardly for a bit, watching everyone else dance
-Feel more and more clammed up
-This place sucks, let's check out a different club and THEN I'll try to talk to girls
-Rinse and repeat
After seeing that video, I was like holy shit... I NEED to try something different this time. Luckily, it was a Saturday night, so I had a party to go to and clubs afterwards.
This time, the moment I entered the party, I didn't "scout out" the place first like most guys do, I went around greeting and hugging everyone that I knew. When anyone I knew was with someone else, I'd introduce myself to them too. Just within 10 minutes of entering the party, I already felt great, because I was continuously socializing with different people without any "breaks" in between. Sometimes I'd even approach random girls and introduce myself. A couple times, our interactions wouldn't even be that long or great, but they'd come up to me later on and talk to me again.
The entire time at the party, I was so fixated on just having fun and spreading positive energy that I had zero qualms about approaching anyone, whether it was someone I knew or completely new. I felt fucking great, and big thing was, I didn't feel creepy like I sometimes do when I'm trying to socialize with new people in a party environment. Before I knew it, an hour had passed, so me, a bro, and two girl friends headed to a club downtown.
Upon entering the club, I immediately started dancing, and hi-fiving people around me. Even though I didn't have much to drink, my inhibitions were at an all-time low already. While we were on the dance floor, a girl near me smiled, so I held out my hand. When she took it, I pulled her in and introduced myself. We talked for a little bit, while I held her close. She seemed to be enjoying the conversation, until one of her friends turned her around and started talking with her. I bailed out of the interaction, since the girl had directed her attention to her friend.
I didn't really care though. For the next hour or so, me and my bro just went around the club dancing and chatting up girls. I made sure to minimize time between interactions, so I could keep my momentum going. None of our interactions were particularly good or memorable, but all I remember was that I felt great the whole time. My bro was a little clammed up and feeling shy, but after a little bit, he loosened up to some degree.
The girls we were with ended up getting too drunk, so we had to go back and take care of them. But overall, this was probably one of the most fun nights out I've ever had.
Lessons learned:
-When going out, go with a focus on having fun and spreading positive energy
-Good way to get into a social mood is just to hi-five or fist bump random people nearby. Seems a little cheesy or lame, but it really helps me getting the ball rolling when I'm feeling clammed up inside
-Try to minimize time between interactions with people. For introverts like me, when I'm in a party environment, I usually talk to some people and then take a "break" from all the socializing. This break usually works against me, because it brings me down from my social and energetic mood to my more usual introverted one
-Always try to start the night off strong by interacting with a lot of people early on. The longer you wait, the harder it'll be to get into a social state of mind
