Getting halfway decent at opening but how do you guys transition into a fun conversation?

First off I would advise against telling the girl she's cute off the bat. That gives her the upper hand and the power between you two, because of that the girl might feel like she's not worth your time. Instead open with something else and if you want to compliment her, compliment something she's wearing like her shirt. This will get her more intrigued in you since its a genuine compliment.

The only thing that ever springs to my mind on the spot after I open (I only approach at night) is like ''So, what are you guys up too tonight?''

I don't think it's good though. Probably a boring interview question, but I never know what else to say, really.

I guess it would also be a bit weird to start asking her about her hobbies and stuff so soon after opening when you still have barely spoken. I'm not sure what the answer to your question is, really.

If it's a choice between a routine that she might find amusing and just standing there not knowing what to say or just asking interview questions, I think maybe routines win.

Open. tell her she's cute (I know the guy above me said not too, but about 90% of pua's open like that, so it must be fine to do). And ask her if she saw some fictitious fight you just saw or pretend to recognise her from tinder or something - Use that everytime you go out for 2 months and see if it helps?

Doing something like this starts your initiation off as fun, instead of blocky, contractual, linear, etc... (that is how generic questions come off. So in my opinion, treat her like you already know all the basic stuff about her and skip to the fun friendly banter and conversation about stupid stuff and nothing.)

Pick a few random things to ask, if you get a positive response, you can easily turn it into a legitimate conversation.
