Media in general, and product advertising in particular, continually presents the narrative that an individual is never quute good enough. It doesn't just come from parents.

Advertising, as a tool of capitalism,may be the worst offender here. They almost universally take the position that their target audience is not quite good enough. Coincidentally enough, they have the right answer for your problem, their product.

But we all, as a society have to rewrite this script sometime. It might as well be now as later. Media is a parasite.

I agree 100%. But you have to understand that music and movies is all entertainment. They write things that the crowd will enjoy. We have all felt that we weren’t good enough for someone in our lives. That’s why artists write that. It’s relatable.

I think we have it a lot better than women do. I mean think about it..most men will not go for an unattractive girl in any case, doesn’t matter if she has personality. However, a girl will go for unattractive men that have something to offer. Sometimes it’s superficial things like money. But most of the times it’s someone who is super confident. You can get beautiful women, even if you’re not good looking. If you can talk to women well, you can get them. I’m not acting like some super great pick up artist or whatever. But the amount of good looking girls I have talked to in one month is really nuts. Some of them have been attracted to me but were in relationships, others not.

You’re never not good enough for a girl. Who cares if she’s good looking. She’s just a human. She shits too. Nobody is better than one another.

There are a lot of songs that I just can't stand because of cringe like that.

Sam Smith has a nice voice, but he's constantly, pathetically begging for sex or complaining that he's settling for a girl who is either cheating on him or doesn't want a relationship when he clearly does. Like, if you don't want it, GTFO.

Re: society: what is that anyway? It's a huge system with lots of moving parts. People make up society and shape it, and are in turn, shaped by it.

So let's be clear here: it's not like society is a separate thing that pushes its own agenda. It's more like a Ouija board. Everyone is like, wha.... you're doing it, no you're doing it, but we're all doing it. We interact with each other and create "society" collectively and yet no one has real direct control over it really.

In the end, there are a lot of ideas out there, some helpful, some unhelpful. Whether or not one accepts an idea is not simply because "society is pushing it." Much has to do with how our self-schema forms in childhood, according to our interactions with family and early interactions with friends. Whether or not we accept an idea or not has more to do with our self-schema and our own basic temperament.

Examples:

Some people are just more stubborn and resist negative things more strongly, even at a young age. (Temperament.)
Meanwhile, a kid who is constantly bombarded with negative ideas about themselves, might adopt some negative voices in their head, and become more susceptible to future negative ideas later on. (Self-schema.)

The overall point is that we can't just pawn this off on society and the fix isn't to rail against society. There's plenty that one can do by addressing unhelpful ideas like, "you're not good enough for women you think are attractive," and fighting the the negative voices in their head (self-schema).

One can do this by practicing meditation and building self-awareness so one is aware of the thoughts going through one's own head, and then hacking into those thoughts and shifting one's own self-schema. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a formal way of doing this, but it's something one can do on their own if they're stubborn enough.

You’re taking this notion the wrong way. The narrative of a male being challenged to rise up and win over a beautiful woman is the story of all stories. The story lies deep within us, within archetypal structures across all cultures across all of time. Archetypes are like concepts that are turned into core characters which are then used to make what humans call stories. There are 4 main archetypes, positive/negative male, and positive/negative female. The positive male is a knight or warrior, and the positive female is a princess. The negative male is a beast, and the negative female is a dragon (sometimes a snake or spider). The core of stories that we love follow the lines of: knight acknowledges a highly prized princess, guarded by an intimidating dragon. If he slays the dragon (overcomes the fear of her beauty) and saves the princess then they fall in love (have sex or kiss in movies). THEN it is up to the princess to tame the beast within the male (get the male to commit to her and be in a relationship/be a responsible king). This is why a woman is what calms down the hulk, this is why a woman is what stops werewolves and vampires in their tracks in twilight. This is why songs are always a lonely knight attempting to reach out to a beautiful princess who seems out of reach and guarded by dragons. Life is beautiful, so before we over assume with bitterness we must search for answers in hopes of new understandings of the deeper truth.

Archetypes are much more complex than I described, I only explained the main 4 to save for time. Hope this helps you gain a new perspective when you go back and look at all the examples you’ve found of these archetypal stories of the heart.

It’s not that you think you’re not good enough for women but you most likely think everything you should have is second class. It has to do with your childhood, basically you have developed a mindset where you don’t deserve the best life has to offer, if it’s a job promotion you will assume someone else deserves it better, if it’s a nice car you will get the lower quality model, and if it’s a beautiful women you assume she likes someone else more. Look back into your childhood and understand you deserve better than what you had and you will start to give it to yourself st all costs , raise your standards for everything you accept in life from now on

A lot of the time the people closest to you try to push you down, so they can feel good about themselves for being f-ups. The "crab-bucket" mentality. There is nothing wrong in trying to strive to be the best person you can, but as soon as you do it for something or someone else - like to impress women - you are doing it for the wrong reasons and probably will lost the motivation and discipline required to improve.

I don't know of this particular song as I try my best to avoid having to suffer Ed Sheeran, but by the sounds of it from what you have written this is the basis of blues - musicians have been writing this shit for years, and many movies esp romcoms have also been made because of it. I don't think it's society pushing this idea onto anyone, it's just people sharing their own experiences of not being good enough and the only people who dictate whether or not one is 'good enough' are the people who either accept you or reject you. The majority of men on this planet are never going to be good enough for beautiful women and that is simply just the universal nature of things. You need to stop this fantasizing and concentrate on just doing the best you can do.
