I like your attitude.

I just have one suggestion: make 1 semi-original opener, and use it until you can open more naturally.

Good job, everyone has to start at the beginning. BTW, you can put [FR] at the beginning of your post's title, this is a "field report" of what you studied and went out to try, what you did, how it worked, and what you learned.

I like your attitude. You went out with the goal of 3 rejections. Excellent. I have a longer term goal that's similar, I am going to be rejected by a thousand women. The more you get rejected, the better your chances of success.

You know, you could start opening people in line waiting to get in. It's a natural spot for an "observational opener," like "Hmm.. how long do you think it's going to take to get inside?" You can think of something.

I remember once, I was getting into a club with a short line, but one girl was stopped aside the doorman and fishing through her huge purse for her ID (like she didn't know she was going to need it to get in). As I passed by the doorman (they never ID me, I am obviously way over 21) I was just winging it when I quipped over my shoulder, "hey, I'll vouch for her, she's over 21." They laughed, of course it was dumb but it was "cocky & funny." Later on, the woman was very easy to re-open, when she saw me, she smiled and her eyes opened wide with interest and we had a great set.

I wrote an FR about that, then some other sedditor wrote in his FR that he got into a similar situation where he could use my opener. He said that once the woman got inside, she opened him and followed him around like a puppy all night. It's field tested! But it can rarely be used, the circumstances where you could use it don't come up all that often.

The point is, it's an observational opener. You observe something and use that to make an opener. Like, "hey, what's that strange purple drink you have there?" These tend to be more "natural," but require more wit on-the-fly.

But ultimately openers aren't that important. Two minutes after you open, they won't even remember what you said as an opener. But you have to use something, anything, to open. You could just say, "Hi, my name's say, what's yours?" In fact, that would probably be the best opener to use if you see a woman making eyes at you and she obviously wants to meet you.

Anyway, if you want to test more opinion openers, go through the seddit sidebar, there are some resources there with a lot of great openers that are field tested, and not so well known as the "who lies more" opener.

Awesome. Don't worry too much about using old canned material to start with, I did a social experiment last night with the other most over-used Mystery opener "Did you see the 2 girls fighting outside?" and never got blown out once. The chances of someone calling you on it are slim, and if they do say "What, are you like a pick-up artist?" just own to it, something like "Yeah, I'm practicing to get on the next season. Is it working?" and stack forward.
