I've got some issues of shame that hold me back. I remember when I went to my first (and pretty much only) lair meeting, I was terrified of seeing someone I knew there. Since that time, knowledge of seduction has helped me tremendously in terms of being more social and even hooking up (had my second bar makeout last weekend, and I was stone-cold sober), but I can only approach in very "warm" situations.

Her are some thoughts/fears that hold me back:

  • Learning about pickup/seduction is weird
  • Approaching women in the daytime is weird
  • If a coworker sees me approaching a woman, they're going to think I'm a creepy old man (I'm 35)
  • If a woman turns on me or some alpha male gives me a hard time, I'm going to blush severely and be unable to handle myself (or may even feel like I want to cry!)
  • If a young coworker sees me out at a bar or club, they're going to wonder what the hell I'm doing there
  • If my ex (who I'm still fucking, btw) discovers I'm into this stuff, I'll never live it down
  • Girls will call me out for wanting to be a pickup artist
  • I'm part of a pathetic trend of guys that women (and society in general) look down upon
  • Someone at my work or in my family is going to start talking about pickup artists, and I'm going to suddenly feel embarrassed in ways that make it obvious I'm into it

I'm not legitimizing these thoughts. Just writing them down makes me realize how ridiculous some of them are. I don't know if I can use logic to destroy these thoughts. I do know, however, that the just don't give a fuck advice popular in this subreddit does not get me very far.

If you guys want to add anything feel free. I would appreciate any comments.

edit: Just so we're clear, it's not like obsess about these thoughts. I meditate and don't suffer from obsessive thinking. But these thoughts arise when I consider my desire to learn this shit.

tl;dr - I sometimes think that that learning this stuff will make me weird, make me seem weird to girls/family/friends, and make me unbearably embarrassed among family/friends/coworkers. Besides "just don't give a fuck," how do you handle this?
