Develop a sensitivity to recognize such situations. Pause slowly, say, "Oh thanks. What do you like about them?" She should have something ready to say and you should be savvy enough to respond and continue from there.

But, you can't really have a great opening convo about soccer cleats. So, move on...like, "do you play?" And from there talk about what you know about soccer, teams you've played for, players you like...etc. Instant connection. Can't lead you by the hand past that.

When a girl compliments something like that I sometimes will use this line, but the body language is key "Thanks, I like your eyes." I usually say this with a somewhat serious face while looking her in the eyes then break into a smile. I have never had a girl not laughing after this, but it's totally my style and natural for me. I'm not big on lines, but I have fun with this one.

You could also say something like "Yeah they're all right, but I make them look fantastic" with a smile.

Basically say anything with a smile back and continue the conversation

I normally go with: "And I like your opinion of my shirt" Big smile "Hi! I'm Ryan" etc. carry on.

I like to go with, "Really? $5 and its yours. Straight up. I'll even throw in one of my socks for free."

Or if you don't feel like being sarcastic, just say "Thanks, I get them at _____, have you been there?"

Honestly, just say anything haha.
