The why is the how.

Figure out your motivations for actually doing this pickup stuff. And figure them out on multiple levels. Petty, practical and higher motivations.

So a petty motivation might be you want a hot girl on your arm or to be able to pull reliably for validation, so all your friends think you're cool, or to rub it in the face of some ex who dumped you or whatever. This petty motivation can be powerful and spur you on to action, but is usually shortlived because after you achieve your goal you have no reason to continue.

A practical motivation would be... well, you as a man need to cum, and sex is really fun. You want to have sex with beautiful women rather than settling, sex is good for your physical and mental health. You want to have a source of soothing feminine energy in your life. These motivations are simply day-to-day concerns. Also as a side-note, bear in mind that women really fucking like sex too, and there's no shame in pursuing it with them. They read shit like Fifty shades of grey, one of the top 5 selling books of all time. All a girl really wants is to suck your dick without being made to feel guilty about it.

A higher motivation would be more long-term goals and drives. So for example you want to master this whole 'sex and relationships' part of life that so many people struggle with... I mean seriously go to /r/dating_advice and just read some of the crap in there, you should be very grateful that you found pickup.

Other higher motivations could be that you want to develop social skills, self esteem and confidence and become an all-round better man. Maybe you want to connect with other people, form deep long-lasting bonds. Maybe you actually want to have kids, and when you do have kids you'll be the kind of man who can teach them how to have a good life too. Maybe you want to develop these skills so that you can be there to help friends and family out of the haze of bullshit surrounding sex and relationships, and help them achieve the same kind of abundance that you've cultivated for yourself.

The nice thing about higher motivations is that they are long-lasting, sustainable and usually have knock-on effects.

So the idea is that you provide yourself with an overwhelming number of reasons to tip the scale in favor of doing the approach rather than holding off because you're scared of the girl calling you a wiener or whatever the fuck. And after you do the first one you'll find the subsequent ones much easier.

This system can be applied to any other part of life too, like going to the gym, eating right, applying yourself at work, etc. Make use of it.

Go to an event that includes a lot of people just standing around having drinks. Im not talking the bar, the bar sucks. I am talking an event.

A charity. A fashion show. An art gallery. Etc. Look in your local news paper.

Go with a group of people. If two girls walk by, lightly touch her arm to get her attention and just say "Hey, how are you girls doing? I am so-and-so."

Then let the conversation develop. Introduce them to the group. Get it happening.

But dont force it. Not everyone is your cup of tea and you are not everyone elses cup of tea. If the conversation grinds down, say "nice to meet you ladies, have a great evening". And then peace.

Do it till you click.

I have been making lots of friends this way. If convo is good, they will be asking YOU for your number.

Key is to not force it.

Honestly man just do it. This is what helped me when I first started doing cold approaches. Everyday I would wake up and talk to myself in the mirror and I still do this to warm myself up for the day. You just practice with yourself saying things like "Hi, you, what's your name introduce yourself, my name is upurs145 and you are?" I just do things like that so when I first talk to a girl I want to game I feel more comfortable.

Also try to talk to girls you don't find attractive to just build your social skills or talk to random people on the street. You have become comfortable with yourself and with others. Trust me when I say you'll get over the hurdle of talking to girls on the street, but it will take time. If you have to take anything from my ramblings is to just talk to people man :)

Practice. Practice on cashiers, clerks, waitresses and hostesses. You do this until it becomes a habit.

When you go out to approach, do some warm up approaches before you meet your target. This is how you get you head in the zone.
