I think your action has to match the energy level present in the conversation or scenario. When I'm super pumped and full of energy I'm smiling and radiating too much positive energy I feel like I can run forever- I go for a hug. It's genuine and the girls can feel that. I'm also 18 by the way. I do the whole handshake thing sometimes followed by a kiss on the cheek depending on the place I'm at- usually a lounge and a chick I know introduces me to her friends or something along that scenario. I'm from NYC things differ in certain places

The core issue is you care what others think of how you introduce yourself to people. It feels awkward because you thought you were suppose to conform to some social rule and if you stuffed it up you are some kind of weirdo.

Cut that shit out now and introduce yourself however it feels comfortable.

Has anyone ever said that you don't introduce yourself correctly???

PS. If you're on extacy, it is custom to greet one with a hug and lots of handsy rubbing of their clothes ;)

It probably feels awkward since you're not used to it. I'm 27, and even my generation was leaning away from shaking hands back in the day... it wasn't until even after college it really became normal.

Here's a tip with girls: When you shake their hand, don't just shake and let go like you would with a dude. Shake slip down to holding her hand, yours on bottom, hers on top for just a few seconds longer while you ask for her name or say something else. Those extra few seconds make a big impression. Make sure to also be staring into her eyes while doing it.

In the first few of this series of 10 short videos it is explained how you can shake hands with women in a "seductive" way.

For friends, I ususally know how comfortable they are with body contact. Most of them get a handshake and we pull each other into a short hug. Some guys hate it, they get a pat on the shoulders. Women get hugs. Some of them like high fives.

Do what you feel like. If you´re partying there´s more energy than on the street so "more intimate" greetings like hugs feel more natural than shaking hands.
