So I'll keep my personal answer short and sweet: Compliance Tests. You have to start the date physical from the beginning so she knows this is a sexual man, not a "new friend". Start with a hug when you meet, and whisper her hair smells good.

During the conversation make some light touches, like ask to see her ring and hold up her hand to see it in the light better.

If your knees should "accidentally" touch (and stay touching) oh well.....

I had a date recently that I completely screwed up, because I made it completely platonic and didn't escalate at all.

It happens, but did you invite her over for a follow up date at your place? Just because you thought you screwed everything up doesn't necessarily mean she does.

Touch her. Start in more platonic places (hands, wrist, etc) and move to more sexual places (thighs, neck, etc).

Also, don't be afraid to talk sexual. Play with innuendo, talk about past relationships, and transition that into sexual topics. I do primarily OLD, so a question I typically ask on a first date is "what's your experience on tinder (or whatever app) been like?" It's so easy to transition to sexier topics from here.

Don't push hard. That increases resistance. It's like a pushy salesman. Your instinct is to say no.

Instead, entice her to have sex with you. Two steps forward, one step back. You're still moving things forward, but you're doing so at a speed that allows her time to get progressively more comfortable and turned on. Getting sexual should be pleasurable for both parties. If it's not, you're doing something wrong.

Physical touch. Touch her arm when you switch topic of conversation, for example. Touch the small of her back if you're following her into the venue. The list is endless, but it mostly comes down to physical touch and calibrating appropriately based on her response.

A platonic date establishes trust, and you both get to have more time to get used to each other. I think girls sometimes panic if a relationship escalates too quick. I’m a guy, and I’d prefer a few dates before deciding if I want to escalate it or not.

However, if your goal is just to have sex, and not a longer relationship, then the faster you establish that, the easier it is for her, I guess.
