I feel I am being held back by being too nice. A lot of the guys i know who pulled frequently in college were manipulators and users to a degree and knew how to be assholes at times.

I’m sure this is talked about on this sub a lot. All my life I have been used to acting very nice due to my personality and autism therapies I underwent. The thing with most social skills interventions is that they teach social skills from a very people pleasing point of view and mindset. I still have a hard time knowing what to say and do at times, and have accidentally misread social cues and upset people (or did something cringe) so I usually act on the side of caution.

A few things I have done to avoid being too nice have been not being afraid to disagree with people and saying no when I don’t want to do something. These days I don’t really care about pleasing people as much as I did when I was younger.

One thing is I don’t know how to playfully tease people or banter. I have just started small by things like “ok nerd” when someone says they are studying or “wow so cool” or “two can play at that game”.

What else should I do to not be “too nice”?

Someone said the main fundamentals of “not being too nice” are setting boundaries, not being afraid to disagree, and humor.

I feel a lot of neurodivergent guys struggle w this due to the way the therapists use conditioning and ambiguity around social cues.

Practically every guy I know who has a nice guy personality has had issues w women or has been perpetually single or a virgin. Is this also true for you guys?
