"I want an open relationship until things get serious between us, if in the future either of us want a monogamous relationship we can talk about it together. But for now lets get to know eachother, without the pressure of commitment... i prefer to be honest with you and tell you if i date another girl/guy...so that in the future if things become serious between us, you will always know i am telling you the truth if i say its only you i want. If i date another girl i will tell you. No need to lie about it. And i hope you feel comfortable enough to tell me the same if you are seeing somone else."

James Marshall gives a great talk on this. Honestly, if you have an hour where you're doing housework or something and need something on the background, just put it on. He starts talking about when and how to have the Talk with a girl. Basic concepts here:

He gives suggestions for when to bring it up.
He gives suggestions on how to word it so you don't end up sticking your foot/feet in your mouth.
He gives suggestions for how to ask for a casual relationship in a direct, honest, positive way.
He emphasizes that there is NO way to guarantee that girls will agree. And that it's important to be prepared to let go of girls who aren't up for that. He did find that more women agreed to this than he expected, though.
He also emphasizes how we need to follow up The Talk with actions so that emotions and other things don't start creeping in and making things messy.

You don't need to lie to people. The major confusion in this sort of thing, comes because most people don't know how to approach casual interactions without treating the other person in some way, like they would treat their GF or BF.

Once things like public displays of affection start coming in, or hanging out multiple times in a week, etc., it's going to be a mess if one tries to make it casual, after the other person has started reacting emotionally to all the cues that it's more than casual.

Most people know how to have the talk, but the problem is that we don't always follow that up with our actions because we're addicted to the good feels we get from PDAs and all that other stuff.

Only tell them after you've fucked them and then only when the topic arises naturally. Be nonchalant about it. This is how I handle mentioning my daughter. Deal breaker if she knows before I've had knowledge of her (see what in did there?) But I've met one and only one in my life who cared after ive already banged her and even she came back after a day.
