This line is awful, for two reasons.

Reason the first! It's not responsive to the question. If she asks what you're looking for, "I'm not boyfriend material" doesn't tell her what you're looking for. It's very different from saying "I'm not looking for a relationship." Still, that wouldn't be telling her what you are looking for, but it's getting close. Just imagine if she said "What are you looking for?" and you answered "I'm not good at math." WTF is that?

Reason the second! It's putting yourself down, not simply disqualifying. There's a big difference between "I'm not boyfriend material" and "I'm not looking for a relationship." The latter says you're choosing to not be in a relationship; the former says no one would choose to be in one with you.

You claim the line works, and if that's the case, then I think maybe you're just explaining it poorly here.

Saying "I'm not boyfriend material." is too polarizing. Just like Mode One direct approach is too polarizing to be as successful as most men would like.

I always say "I could go either way... I could just date different people or I can be in a relationship if I find a great girl. But I'm picky." I don't get blowback from this and it gets the girl in the mindset of proving herself to me vs. the other way around.

That line tells me three things, you just want to fuck, that you're trying to be obscuring/cryptic/mysterious about it and that something is wrong with you emotionally/mentally since you can't be boyfriend material.

You might as well just tell them you want a fuck buddy and set the sails straight.

Edit: Im not saying just blatantly state "i want to be fuck buddies" with no context and outside of conversation and congruency. If you've been giving off the right signals and raising sexual tension, stating you just want to be sexual partners would just be like signing a check someone has been already waiting for you to give them.
