Don't be something you aren't normally. If you aren't a spontaneous person, it will come across as fake. Just be real. And don't be afraid to ask questions as long as they are thoughtful. Girls love to talk about themselves but even more we love it when someone is really listening to us talk about ourselves. Oh, and no flowers!!! talk about dreams, dream jobs, if you could do anything and know you werent gonna fail. Let her talk about it first, then explain to her yours. those are always good ways to ask interesting questions and not get stuck in interview mode.

This is your first date in forever man, have fun. Enjoy the date. This is seriously my advice for you and for the quality of the date. If you have fun on it, she will too. There are a ton of things I could say on conversation and physical escalation, but if there's only one piece of advice allowed, "enjoy it".

I'm late to the party, but there was a post here recently that talked about an easy way to quickly introduce a feeling of familiarity:

Talk about a time you were embarrassed
Talk about a time you were scared
Talk about your relationship with parents

Of course, imply that she should give answers as well, to introduce a fun familiarity for both of you.

And certainly don't forget kino/romantic conversation/spontaneity/being yourself. Doing only this will plant you firmly in the friend zone.

Be yourself. It's the easiest thing to do and being disigenuous only causes heartache in the long run, if not tremendous effort to continue being someone you're not.

Bottom line: it's the first date, and if she doesn't enjoy YOU, then move on.
