Even in medium sized cities, you can quickly run out of high match girls, I think you are hurting yourself by not keeping cold approach skills up.

IMHO, online dating is a waste of time. If the girl's even mildly attractive, she's getting hundreds of messages a week and you're just one more in the pack. Plus every creepy guy who can't talk to women in real life is on there. She gets a lot of messages from them, so her bitch shield is sky high. There's nothing you can do to differentiate yourself from the pack that won't make her think you're creepy. Plus a lot of the girls are on there to feed their egos or because they themselves are too socially awkward to meet someone in person. You'll only get responses from about 10% of the messages you send, which can be very frustrating. It's a lot easier to make a good impression in real life where you're the only guy standing in front of her and you can differentiate yourself instantly just by having the balls to say hello.

Having said that, I should admit that I met my current girlfriend online, so it can work. Just don't focus too much of your attention on it.

Seeing a lot of rags on online dating. I must be one of the lucky ones. Been dating a young (female) dentist for a few months now and everything is going very well. I also come from a small city area with very few women online with potential. I had profiles up on POF, Match, and OkCupid. I probably lurked for free on match for a couple years before buying a membership. Once I had a membership I chatted with quite a few girls. I dated one that didn't work out for about a month, and otherwise there were plenty more I could have gone on dates with I just new they wouldn't be much potential to me. Okcupid and POF, at least in my market, were a waste of time. The quality of women were quite poor. A lot of community college dropouts and baby mamas.

Online is a fantastic way to meet women. You can get great results. With enough work, you can improve your online game by leaps and bounds. You can get better at dating. The only drawback is that it's difficult to improve your confidence around women if you do online dating exclusively.

I did online dating for a few years before I got into pickup and what I found is that I could once in a while snag a super hottie, but when I got in front of them on a date, I was inhibited. What that meant is that by doing online dating, I got a lot more dates, and I could consistently hook up with women who were my 7's, women I knew I could already get but whenever I managed to get a date with hotter women, I blew it.

Cold approaching strangers is one of the hardest things to learn, but it gives you something that you can't get anywhere else: the ability to fail with literally nothing on the line. Yes, of course, due to approach anxiety, the pain of rejection and other emotions, cold approach has a high emotional cost for most guys when they start out, but with a stranger there's less on the line. It's not like how you could ruin a friendship from hitting on your friend's friend or get fired from your job for hitting on a co-worker. It's a complete stranger and the practical blowback is pretty much negligible.

One of my female clients is trying to learn banter. She wants to learn how to banter with her co-workers. I can teach her all the mechanics of banter, and we can practice it, but it's really difficult for her to improve because there's too much on the line every time she interacts with a co-worker. If she says something creepy or weird, there are real repercussions. Ideally she should practice bantering with strangers because if she fucks it up--and you always fuck it up when you're learning--then you just walk away from the stranger.

Yes, you do get some practice interacting with hot women by doing online dating, but not anywhere near as much as you would if you went out every day and talked with women.

I've had good luck with it. Met my ex-wife that way. The keys are:

Good pictures - no ab shots or pics of you and your sports car. Include a full body picture.
Interesting profile. Don't say the same thing as everyone else. Be specific about what interests you and what you're looking for in someone else.
When contacting a girl for the first time, send a short but personalized message. Don't say "ur hot." Find something about her profile that interests you and mention it, ideally in a witty manner. And don't send a wall of text.

I'm trying to get into online game right now, but most of the girls online are either fatties or old. Still it's a great skill to develop and it's good to hear that you're doing well with it.

Work on your cold approach game and if you're even decent at it the results pour in. The difference is that the girls who you will be cold approaching are frequently the types who don't have online profiles, or, if they do, they get 100,000 messages a day. Unless you're Tom Brady you're but another delete in their inbox.

There are huge flaws in the time economy argument too. Proponents of online game keep preaching that they save so much time and money by not going out to clubs or practicing day game. In an average night out you can easily #close 5-6 girls, sometimes K-close 1-2 girls, and occasionally F-close if you're confident, fun, outcome independent, and make your intentions known.

On the money tip: If you're getting drunk enough to hit the wallet hard, your game is going to suck. Limit it to a drink an hour (2 if you're Irish) and it won't be so expensive. I can keep a Saturday night under $50 (with 16 of that being cab) if I'm smart about it.

At the end of the day, my biggest peeve with online game is that a message on OKcupid or POF is practically worthless. Furthermore, how many do you have to send to receive one back? Even if we're talking a 50% return rate, you're spending time on your computer, one of hundreds of potential white night AFC suitors, when you could be out, with friends, having fun and picking up girls in real time. Furthermore, when you do escalate online, the chances of the girl flaking increases tenfold when you ask her to meet. "I've never even met this guy. What if he's a creep. I think I'll just stay home" are the types of flaky thoughts you can outright obviate by meeting the chick in person first.

Out of laziness or fear, I don't want to approach, so I'm taking the easy way.

I'm not saying you should avoid online dating. It can be a fantastic resource. The issue is that you're using it as a crutch.
