In my experience, not feeling dependent on external validation has the side effect that people are sort of drawn to me. It's like I signal that I have a secret, and they want to find out what it is. It's kind of like being around cats. If you don't try to get their attention, they'll seek you out. And that's what happens to me, both on the apps and IRL.

So yes, caring less about what people think can definitely radiate confidence and signal that you are comfortable being in your own company and that you don't need others to validate you. I personally find that attitude very attractive in a man.

Yes and no. It seems like you're burdened with shame. And that's making you self-conscious and unbalanced. But rather than trying to escape shame by becoming shameless, can you escape shame by really going into the pain, really exploring the insecurity and desire for validation, really integrating it? Because stuffing it down and pretending like you don't care often leads to vile behavior. And while it can sometimes work to fool people for a while, it won't fool your body, and you'll be stuck carrying around all that shame until you are ready to face it.
