I've never tried negging before until yesterday at a friend's party. Most of the guests were with engineering or computer science background (in other words, nerdy) which probably was the reason why this girl I negged felt such superiority.

After watching her demeaning behaviour for a while, I discreetly imposed myself to her company. There were others around as well. I steered the discussion towards looks related topics and as she started to boast how much she admires her side profile, I made a joke about how some women look so perfect from back or side but when you see the whole face, it can be a letdown*. Adding of course that I definitely not particulary mean her. As we all were drunk and especially guys understood on general level the dilemma I presented, everyone started laughing. But her. No one actually even seemed to notice that I had disrespected her but just made a joke about how people can look different from varying angles.

The other people continued joking/discussing in nerdy way about symmetry of human faces. She left to other room to talk to other people.

A half an hour later I was elsewhere but she returned to my proximity. In contrast to her earlier attidute, she began flirting with me. Desperately trying to get my approval.

To cut long story to short, she showed a totally different side of her, very vulnerable one. Thus I began to feel bad for her. Was it really necessary for me to treat her like that, maybe her arrogance was not intentional but just a defence learned to keep unwanted males with they pickup attempts away?

So my question is, do you typically avoid of using negging or if you use it, how do you avoid the feeling of bad conscience?
