Not OP but I'd say trial and error, fitness, lots of different things can contribute to gaining confidence to the point where it's impossible to answer your question.
The best advice I like to give is from when I was younger and I shit my pants when I saw bees and feared they may sting me and my mother said "the bee is as afraid of you as you are afraid of it."
If you keep playing women off as needing to be put on a pedestal you will eventually convince yourself that they are worth more than you.
Truth is: women want someone who treats them like a person, know that in hindsight, having a conversation with a women is no different than talking to a buddy, except when flirting starts coming into play.
At the same time, if you dress to impress it helps with confidence.
I'm gonna stop here because I could write an essay on how to become more confident and then some.
Read the side bar and just fucking go out there and live your life.
Romance is not a "how to get laid 101" it's more like you having to just go with the flow and make choices while in the moment.

Wearing a nice suit, especially a classy one like a three piece with a pocket square, is an instant confidence booster. It's amazing what wearing a nice suit can do for your game on any given night. In my city people don't wear suits that often, so you're instantly ahead of the game by wearing one in the evening. Bonus points if you're in shape and the suit fits even that much better.

People are staring. I could see the jealousy of fat, paunchy men, and overweight 20 something girls seething.
Hahahaha...I was in a similar situation. I was invited by an older woman to her house and then to a NYE party at a club. Immediately realized I was best dressed/groomed man in the club...it was really flattering getting all the attention haha.
