OP, i dont even approach, but if i know one thing about this is that you cant just open a girl and ask for her contact right after.

i bet the interaction didnt even last 15 seconds.

imagine someone stopped you by the street, told you you're cute, you dont even know who the hell this person is, and then suddenly this person asks for your contact. it would be super weird.

Yes. Asking someone straight away to grab a coffee without any small-talk is unlikely to work. Imagine if a guy came up to you (even though you are male, i assume) and said 'hey man, you look like a decent guy - lets go grab a coffee'. Even if you were sure there was no sexual connotation involved here you'd almost certainly be suspect.

Now if he came up and said something like 'excuse me, I'm new to the area here and was looking for your best recommendation for coffee around here where would you go?'.

The difference there is that as well as explaining himself a little ... which you do with the cute line.. hes also engaging you.

At present you are the opposite of me - i can engage them a little but haven't offered them out yet. On the next one i would say pick 2 topics to discuss before asking for the number - think of a topic before you go in - fashion, current affairs -- anything to add to your cute line and see if the dynamic changes. Why don't you try to build some rapport? I'm no expert, but what I do is:

Open with a compliment about a specific article of clothing. This compliments their choices not their physical features.

Give a time constraint (I'm doing ____ in a few minutes). Make some small talk. Screen for bf. Discover a common interest.

Invite her to talk more about that common interest or even do that common interest together. Get her number.

Make a little more small talk so it doesn't look like you just wanted the number, but to get to know her. Leave or transition to instant date if you are both free.

You can only pull off that hit and run shit if your SMV is sky high, which in your case I'm guessing is the opposite. Take a step back, kid and watch some daygame videos on youtube.
