I have had a lot of success with this gambit. I can't remember the name of it but you just say "let's play a game. Tell me 5 things about yourself, 4 true and 1 lie. Ill try to figure out the lie" The things they tell you will give you a lot of material for further conversations.

NICE!

Wow that's awesome. I wish I can think of games like this.

I believe that's simply called "Two truths and a lie," though obviously with your's it's four truths.

First just relax. Nothing you text will magically make her like you. If you think of a joke or something make the joke but just talk to her in text like a normal conversation.
Use your first text to reference something you talked about with her especially something that got you a DHV hit. For instance if you mention you do cross fit and she is like "OMG I tried it once and I loved it," you can make your first text "Just finished my cross fit workout today, have you done anything exciting?"
Then take what she says and make it a normal conversation. If she is like "oh nothing" then bust her balls or if she is like "My parents are visiting me" or whatever comment on that like a normal conversation.

haha yeah what he said, for realz. And in addition to using hooks from past conversations, I mean also, does it really matter? Texting is a bunch of non-sequitors anyways so just open the volley with, "hey do you know what a do-do bird is? I just met my mom's friend and she totally looks like one." pic of dodo bird. better to be bizzare than boring

True, but better to be admired than embarrasing. And again, not to ba an arrogant dick-waffle because thats some good advice.

First - Never take your phone out of your pocket unless:
You are getting someones number
Someone is calling you
Someone texted you and YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ELSE AT THE MOMENT.
Secondly - Why do you need it to be "a wholesome talk"?
What you are doing is "preparing" for something that you have no idea will ever be. Just fucking go say "Hi" and take it from there. If it's not a "wholesome" talk, what the fuck does that have to do with ANYTHING?
Stop putting more pressure on yourself than what is needed.

Fuckin' spot on Bevin! Best advice to ever give someone with AA, don't try be something you're not, just start with saying HI!

I try to have meaningful (or wholesome) conversations to set myself apart from all the others. If i dont do something different, whats the point of trying to get to know people? I don't want/need to be "that guy from that place." I want to be memorable. I mean, in the end, no one gives a shit about "that guy from that place," but everyone remembers the man who sets himself apart.

The point that you're overlooking here is your own uniquity. You already are different from everyone else. If you want to have more engaging conversation with strangers than draw the words from your own experience. A drop of it is worth an ocean of advice. First live a little, for yourself, figure out who you are. Travel to exotic places, be spontaneous, put yourself out there, do something that scares you. Sharing genuine stories of life experience will always intrigue.

Texting conversations suck. When you want to start one, use a hook from a previous interaction. Something that just you two (or maybe a few others) will understand the reference to. Something like a nickname, or a joke about an event you both witnessed/interacted in. Then transition to in person meetings, or better yet: Call them up and set up an in person meeting. Calling makes you different from the rest of men who just text.
Also, I feel a lot of people didn't read the post and are just responding with in person opener advice which was not asked for.

I love using situational openers because its just an observation of what's going on around you. For example at a bar waiting for a drink women usually get served first, so I like to try to get the women to buy my drink so I don't have to wait and bam convo started. I think your getting stuck in your head, opening is the easy part. Even a simple, "who are you?" works wonders. The other day sitting in traffic I was waving to people then got 2 numbers in literally 1 min. Be bold and confident about it... Women love that shit.
Yeah, I've got my game down in person. I can hold my own quite well in person, but texting is the issue. When texting, you can't (usually) be too mindful about whats around both parties.

Don't have conversations over text. IMO, you can't game over text. Socializing is mostly about the sub-communication (body language, the underlying mood of the interaction, physical contact, situational context, etc.), and you lose all of that goodness when you text. There's almost no sense of emotional connection, unless it's someone you know really well. Even so, I'd still avoid text conversations. I really only text to handle logistics, or to ping a girl I haven't talked to in a while.
Maybe this is just me though. Some guys apparently have success with text game. I'm not one of those guys.

Stop using openers. Using something repeatedly shows that you're dependant on outcome (you want to get the same result), that you want to achieve something. But if an opener doesn't work, it will not start working out of nowhere. Maybe the problem is not knowledge, but the way you think and act. That's why "learning" is not accumulation of knowledge, but rather "change". Also, you will never learn pickup if you continue relying on openers. Work on yourself, not openers.
I always try to think of something new. Why? Because it puts me in state, while trying out the same thing over and over again doesn't, even if it provides the benefit of success.

I don't think using canned openers means that you're outcome dependent. You can flirt with girls, try to get numbers/lays using entire canned routines and at the same time be outcome independent. That just means that means that you don't think any less of yourself if you get rejected.
Canned openers are fine. It's an easy way to open a set, especially if you have AA. Once you start talking, that first line ends up having little effect on the overall interaction.
[–]todayismyday2 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
If you were outcome independant, you'd also be independant of your canned openers. That means that you're good without them. I didn't want to mean that they are bad, but learning pickup through them is like learning a language by trying to speak it, not by learning grammar rules.
Also, don't forget that most of the guys here are finding it hard to know what to say. Using openers does not help very much, compared to getting your inner game down.

My bad, "openers" as a title just meant "something I can say that will get a flowing conversation going." not to be a sarcastic ass-wipe because you gave some good advice. Just clarification. Its the something new that gets me, and i dont think trial-and-error will really accomplish anything.
Yeah, openers really wasnt the best word to use in that case. Its not as much a stale corny opener as it is some to say that will lead into a flowing conversation.
