Question about lying to increase social value

Never do it. Ever.

If you lie, there is going to a time that you are going to have to pay up. Whether you lie bout what you do and then you drop details about your work that are incorrect, or lying about something you can do for them (like getting into a club) and when they ask you to do it, you won't be able to.

Only increase social value within your own means.

Yeah, don't do it. The farthest I've ever gone was to download an app that will send texts to my phone at designated times. I used this on a date to make it appear as though I was being contacted semi-regularly throughout our date together. That I have important things going on, yet I'm there with her, and ignoring my phone every time it goes off. I'm not doing that again though.

I was eating lunch with my coworkers at the cafeteria, and there was this other girl there whom I didn't know also sitting at the table. I opened her with "Are you in XYZ project?" She said she wasn't but we started talking.

Now, its work, and my coworkers are literally clammed up because they can't think of anything to talk about with a stranger who is also a pretty woman.

So as we are finishing up our lunch, I finish a thread of mine with "You know, since you're new here, and I know some people in the same division as you but on a different floor, give me your email ID and I will send them to you."

Yeah, I lied, even though I did know the name of one other guy there was no way I was gonna give that to him. Introductions are a massive social proof and I only give those to deserving people. Since then, I've added her on the company IM, we've chatted off and on but the subject of how I got her email ID never came up.

A little white lie can be a good way to give her a reason to give you her number, and you'll find out pretty quickly whether she gave you her number just so you could hook her up or so you could hook up.
