You might use "I have a boyfriend" as a last resort. Some girls use it as a reflex before giving a guy a chance.

Some girls will get hit on many times in a night and will understandably get fed up with it.
So they resort to "I have a boyfriend" as a quick and effective way to shut guys down.

But that means in cases where it's a lie, it's not really a statement of disinterest in the guy, but a statement of disinterest in getting picked up in general.
The girl may change her mind once she realises the guy is actually very desirable.
Guys who are PUAs will see this as a shield that girls understandly use to weed out any beta males.

Which is exactly right, a guy who is alpha wouldn't be phased by a shit-test. He would pass the test by either completely ignoring it or making a mockery of it (agree and amplify). It's the beta guys who react and say things like "oh sorry I didn't realise you had a boyfriend...I'll just stand over there and not bother you".

Shit test does not always equal, "lie". A shit test doesn't even always describe a deliberate act.

I would never tell a guy I had a boyfriend if I was even a little bit interested in him. The very few times I have used the "I have a boyfriend" line was when I could not get the guy to stop hitting on me otherwise, and at that point he would have never had a chance anyway.

Well, apparently some guys are able to bypass this strategy while building attraction, so even if you've never encountered such a man..... even if you represent a girl who is immune to such a thing, clearly YMMV with something like this.

Point: Just because someone claims BF, does not always stop someone from building attraction.

I just don't get the disconnect between the whole "I want a woman who doesn't play shitty games" and the absolute need I see on here to "pass" every shit-test.

First off, I think you're in the wrong sub-Reddit: I could see complaints about women who "play shitty games," on /r/relationships, but usually such the guys who characterize that behavior as, "shitty games," are the guys who don't understand women and define entirely too much female behavior under the category of "shitty" when it's their own fault for turning a girl off with negative behavior.

Secondly, "the absolute need I see on here to "pass" every shit-test," does not properly define where the guys from this sub-Reddit are coming from. You're mischaracterizing what you read almost like it is some pathological "need". You're essentially talking about a community of geeks, but they're geeks who have decided to sit down and deconstruct how attraction and "pick-up" work. A shit test is just ONE aspect or variable that the community seeks to understand, because it's a variable that is understood to represent actions or words that guys believe to mean that a girl is not interested, when in fact, she still might become interested if you respond in a certain way.

As such, dealing with them is intriguing and stimulating. Especially since many of us here have taken a shit test at face value at some point in our lives, only to discover that we should still have assumed the sale.

You've mischaracterized it again. It's not bullshit, it has a social function and didn't appear out of nowhere. And I'm not sure you even realize what the definition of a shit test is, but just in case, here's a good working definition:

Shit test: Often unconscious (and sometimes conscious) tests that women throw at men in order to quickly determine if they'd be interested. Shit tests can be challenges, indications of disinterest, or reframes meant to test guys.

Actually, EVERYBODY uses some kind of shit tests. I went on a date with a girl last weekend and took her on a hike. She couldn't keep up and started walking like and old person: it wasn't a deliberate test on my part, but she still failed it. I'm sure there are things YOU do that constitute tests of a guy.

The only way to avoid shit tests would be to not interact with people, really. It's not that an "alpha" would not "put up" with a shit test, it's that they would probably scarcely notice it.

Of course, some kinds of shit tests are turn-offs, but that's a matter of taste, not some rule.

Enlighten me?

I don't know that you really came seeking our point of view, based on the tone of your language, but who knows, I might be wrong. Maybe you'll read some of the more well thought out responses here and some of it will make sense.

I'll generalize but basically...

Social dynamics are fun, "chasing" a woman is fun, and passing shit tests is one of the quickest ways to build attraction and congruence.

This would be my guess: I don't think that most pickup is for investing in a long term relationship. "Shitty games" are only annoying when in the role of being someone's significant other, whereas in pickup they are part of gaming the girl. The important thing is being able to quickly bypass whatever a woman uses to determine whether or not she will sleep with a guy.

How "respectable" a woman is doesn't really matter if one is just staying with her for one night.

The "Alpha" guys are the ones who can quickly identify and pass shit-tests without being thrown off.
