Setting aside the recent high-profile takedowns and closures, how do you think the pickup community has changed in other ways?

The first first gen were the masters, these guys all wrote the foundations that led to the 2nd gen. These masters were ones like mystery, david d, etc. The originals.

2nd gen were guys like toddv, rsd (back in 2000s) who learned from these guys and basically set the more modern foundations of pu and made it more widely acceptable.

Basically it is my belief that there are no more masters created after the 2nd gen. They weren't masters yet, but this is the timeframe they all started learning. That was all we got. These guys are renaissance men in terms of game. They understood and mastered all the 1st gen styles. They lived and breathed it and had such a wide grasp on it that they had skills in basically everything.

The 3rd gen came around 2005-2010 - were the around the time simplepickup started game but weren't simplepickup yet. Years may be a little off but its this timeframe of knowledge that impacted them the most. This was the year that game really became more mainstream. People were sharing 'technology' on the internet, and while it could be duplicated/replicated and worked it wasn't a body of philosophy. It was a 2 bladed knife, it made game more accessible but also diluted its quality.

The 2nd gens had learned from the masters, the original guys who wrote books. They embodied an entire philosophy not just 1 or 2 lines here and there. They learned the underlying strategy, philosophy, and school of thought. Its like learning kung fu then jui jitsu as a whole vs learning 1 kick from kung fu and 1 toss in jui jitsu.

We have the following generations every 5 years from them, where nobody reads the masters and just does their own random garbage and posts random snippets of game online. Like I said, learning game now is like learning 1 kick from karate, 1 punch from kung fu, 1 toss in jui jitsu but only being showing it a single time and not reading it from an original master. And not getting the sense of idea of how that basic technique fits into a bigger strategy.

So there were 2 things going on here, information dilution and the 2nd apprenticeship. Back in 2000-2010 PUAs masters were taking and teaching newbies in things called Lairs. There were regular PUA meetups for exchanging of information and finding new wings. Basically every city had them and major city lairs reached 1000s in people in size. It was an organized effort to teach and pass on knowledge in a master-apprenticeship style. At the time, almost nobody learned game doing their own shit when it was just way easier to wing someone really good and just have them teach you.

Naturally the loss of this social learning system greatly impacted how people learned game. Combined with dilution of knowledge and now loss of knowledge the community quality of the average guy has drastically dropped. There were guys I met 10 years ago that could pull every day, and needing to only open a handful of girls. Not this 'you can only bang 1 out of 100 girls you open' garbage or 'its a numbers game' that seems so widely accepted now.
